Last night might as well been penned by the screen actors guild and Evan Longoria might as well been Robert Redford. The players could have entered the game through a cornfield. It was perfect. It was dramatic. It was baseball, the way we have all wanted it.The games that were played last night were the culmination of pennant races and the wildest of all Wild Card scenarios. For Atlanta, St.Louis, Tampa and Boston, it all came down to that last out of the season. Folks, if you didn't suspend your bonner for football last night, and re-embrace that National Past-time, you missed the night of a lifetime.
Could ol' man Chipper lead his team to the playoffs and ride off into the sunset? Could the team that broke a curse will their way into the post-season after letting it all but slip away in September? In the hometown of the vary man that cursed them? Could a team of youngsters in a city that doesn't support them, finish the charge and come out victorious? Or would Northeast money rule the day? The hand of God even intervened in the form of a rain delay in Baltimore. Last night had it all.
As of right now, this is hands down the greatest day of baseball that has ever been played. However, you can make an argument that last night was the culmination of the greatest regular season ever. I am not saying that it was, or that I even think that, but, I am open to anybody coming up with reasons of why it shouldn't be held in such regard.
Whatever the case may be, last night was a perfect example of why baseball, in all it's geometry and nuances, is perfect.
