In-N-Out The 64/60 Week 1

It certainly feels good to have baseball back in our lives. It has been to long since I have posted a In-N-Out column breaking down the weekly action. For some it was a nice start while others had some struggles. Two games came down to the final day while four games had been decided by Saturday Night. I really don't expect a trend to form. I see to much balance among teams in this league to have that much seperation over a seven day period. As Christopher Lee stated in his Fireside Chat column he once again finds himself at the Top of the Leaderboard. As I have stated this week the season is early and no team should be labeled a success or failure after only one week. So don't panic if you find yourself in the bottom of the standings you have Week 2 to turn it around.

Week 1

BCFP 6 vs Prestige Worldwide 6. The game of the week came down to Sunday Night and that Pujols bastard. After starting the week strong Prestige Worldwide had a double digit lead over the Factory. The Factory came roaring back as Prestige fell back to earth a bit and heading into the 9th inning of the Sunday Night Game the Factory had a 7-5 lead. Up comes Pujols out goes a HR and that 7-5 Factory W turns into a stinkin 6-6 tie. Hearbreaker to say the least.

Weekly Highs: RBI 53 (BCFP), K/9 9.79 (BCFP), QS 8 (Prestige Worldwide)

MVP- Albert Pujols .375/4/7/10/0/1.319

BC Dingers 11 vs. Ohio River Carp 1. This only proves you are only as good as your opponent. The Dingers handed the Carp a beatdown despite having a rather pedestrian week. When you can earn W in AVG and OPS with .243/.752 consider yourself fortunate. The Carp just didn't have it this week and the omission of Heyward by the Commissioner still wouldn't have made a difference. The Carp will surely bounce back this week and as for the Dingers it could be anohter magical season when you play this poorly and win by double digits.

Weekly Highs: None

MVP: Rickie Weeks .368/2/6/9/0/1.240

Maccabi Hebrewers 10 vs. Hell and Damnation 2. This game was still within reach come Sunday morning but it would have taken a miracle. The Hebrewers took advantage of a solid week at the plate and took a 6-0 advantage. Thuogh the pitching of the Hebrewers wasn't as good as the bats it was more than enough to coast to the easy victory.

Weekly Highs: Saves 9 (Hell and Damnation)

MVP: Nelson Cruz .450/4/6/9/0/1.670

Tude Smackers 5 vs. B'Ville Stars 5. It appears as though the Smackers could be using the ADD/DROP pitching approach this season. THe Smackers neutralized the SP advantage that the Stars had and earned a 7-7 QS split. Since the Smackers had the advantage with closers the handled the SV dept. I must say it was a well managed week by Mr. Ward. However the Stars pitching was simply better quality so the ERA and WHIP went to the Stars. The Smackers did score 50 Runs and hit 15HR but somehow managed to hit .215 on the week this is certainly a statistical oddity. THe Stars took advantage posting a .289 AVG and a .828 OPS to go with it. And with steals tied at 10-10 a 5-5 game one split is what we had.

Weekly Highs: HR 15 (Tude Smackers), K's 65 (Tude Smackers)

MVP: Sean Marcum 2 QS 3.46 ERA .92 WHIP 7.62K/9

Arguementative 9irons 11 vs. LeMastero's 41129ers. Now this was a beatdown the way a beatdown should be. THe 9irons played well across the board while the 41129ers had their struggles to say the least. THe 41129ers had league lows in HR with 7 and failed to crack 30 RBI. The 9irons had the most balanced team in the league for the week as both the teams offense and pitching was in the Top 4 of the league. I believe the 41129ers will have better days ahead. What could be scary for the rest of the league is the numbers from the 9irons in week one should be expected all season.

Weekly Highs: AVG .298 (9irons), OPS .863 (9irons), ERA 2.48(9irons)

MVP: Roy Halladay 2QS 17K's .56ERA, .94 WHIP, 9.56K/9

Hendo Colonels 10 vs. Rubber Duckies 2. THe Colonels are my pick for the biggest suprise from Week 1. The Colonels appear to be a solid squad post draft but there offense was outstanding in week 1. They are the only team to post over 50 in both runs and RBI. They not only tied the league lead in HR's they also lead teh league in SB's. As if the solid offense wasn't enough the Colonels threw the pill pretty well also with 5 QS a 3.36ERA and a K/9 of 8.95. The Duckies simply had a bad draw in their first game of the 64/60. The Duckies had a nice balance of hitting and pitching but when you go up against a juggernaut what are you to do. Had the Duckies played the Dingers it would have been a 6-6 game instead the Dingers are atop of the leaderboard and the Duckies are stuck in 10th.

Weekly Highs: WHIP 1.12 (Rubber Duckies), Runs 60(Colonels), HR 15(Colonels), SB 12(Colonels)

MVP: Ryan Howard .357/3/6/10/0/1.257

Pick Up's of the Week: I went back through the transactions over the last two weeks or so. THese aren't based on what the player did this week. It is simply based on future performance.

Delmon Young- BC Dingers. This could be the year all the hype of years past is fulfilled. As long as he can play well the AB's will come despite playing in a crowded OF.

CJ Wilson-HEll and Damnation. Isn't a sure thing but has plenty of upside. If he can keep his rotation spot he will be a good K source as well as K/9 and WHIP.

Jon Rauch-B'Ville Stars. Doesn't have the stuff you desire in a closer but the Twins play a style of ball the results in plenty of close games and Save opps. Even if Rauch blows 8 Saves this season if he can keep his job he will get to 30 easily.

Head Scratcher of the Week. Julio Borbon Prestige Worldwide.

Not many moves left me scratching my head but I had to pick something. I am not as high on Borbon as most are so I understand why you would drop him. Also add into the equation that you already have Juan Pierre how many UTIL spots do you want to be occupied by a .280 hitter with no power. So the move mad since to me but anytime you have a player who is worth bidding on as was Borbon who went for 11 perhaps finding a suitable trade option would have been the better move.

The 64/60 at the NFBC Week 1. Each week I will give everyone an update on how we are faring in the NFBC. Currently the NFBC is 12th in are 12 team league and 285 of 288In case you aren't familiar with the scoring system we suck. We didn't have a good week at the plate or on the mound. I feel good about are offense overall but the injury to Brian Roberts doesn't help. Are pitching however is very concerning. We don't have any big time K guys. Zambrano and Danks are slotted two spots higher on are team than they should be. Zambrano should be a 5th or 6th pitching option at best on our team he is the 3rd or 4th guy. To make matters worse one of are two closers have already lost their job. We will not fear however. THings will surely get better won't they? After all a wise man once stated the season isn't decided in the first week.

Chris is not at the top of the leaderboard.

Being 1st and being tied for 1st are not the same. Ask Penn St.

If two teams have the same record and one appears first then they are at the top of the leaderboard. Ask Texas.

I think I'd be more worried about Jorge Cantu and Chris B. Young(bit players) play like "Gods", and only being able to tie my opponent.

Your analogy overlooks a huge factor; our team rank isn't decided by voters.

In your instance, Texas had the same record as Alabama but was voted #1, so they weren't tied. In mine, Chris (Penn St.) is tied for first therefore not at the top of the leaderboard. You can't be tied and be "at the top", the two preclude each other.
