Blotch's Beef presents: "RugRat"

The world’s largest rug is 60,546 square feet and can be found in Nishabour, Iran. At least that is what Google proclaims. I’m here to tell you, that this proclamation is false. The world’s largest rug can be found in the good ole U. S. of A. You might think that is in the Smithsonian Museum…think again. The world’s largest rug is in Durham, North Carolina at Duke University. When I think of Duke University, two things come to mind; academics and lacrosse. I have failed to credit them for innovating the world’s largest rug. What in the world does “Blotch’s Beef”, Duke University and the world’s largest rug have in common? Read the following scenarios and you might just see the common thread.

Scenario #1:

Corey Maggette admits in a sworn statement that he accepted money from Myron Piggie, his summer league/AAU coach. Maggette goes on to lead Duke to the national Championship game where they fall to the University of Connecticut. That runner-up banner still hangs in Cameron Indoor Stadium, although Maggette, according to NCAA rules should have been ineligible to play. The banner was never vacated. Meanwhile, Memphis University was stripped of their 2008 runner-up banner for playing Derrick Rose, although he was cleared to play by the NCAA.

Scenario #2:

Duke basketball player, Lance Thomas purchases $97,800 of jewelry during his senior year (2009-10). Duke goes on to win the NCAA championship. Thomas started 39 games of that season. That banner is still hanging in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Scenario #3:

Recently the Duke basketball team was served a huge piece of humble pie courtesy of the University of Miami. Coach Keebler, I mean Krzyzewski, was so upset that he “supposedly” ordered a practice that started at 1:30 AM and ended at 4:45 AM. NCAA rules prohibit practices between the times of midnight and 5 AM.

The first two scenarios, to my knowledge, were never resolved. They were swept under the world’s largest rug. I can guarantee that scenario number three will fade quietly into the night.
