In-N-Out Week 21

The annual 64/60 Social Event of the summer took place this past Saturday as many of the 64/60's finest gathered at headquarters for the annual 64/60 Football draft. As always it was a very enjoyable experience for myself. Anytime you get the fellas together it's a win win for all involved. But as has been the case for the entire 64/60 Event calender in 2013 it's been a little bittersweet. With each event becomes the reminder that the 64/60 of yesteryear no longer exist. Old time owners have walked away, with more to follow next season. The old Andy Clark art of brushing off a draft via phone call has been replaced with a owe so thoughtful series of text beginning 30 minutes before the draft starts. So while these departures and lack of appreciation for the league pain me one must embrace the change and still look to constantly improve on the product. Continue to search high and low for a group of participants who are all about the game itself. A group that combines to make a league which is not only fun and competitive on the field but with the off the field shenanigans to match. For me 2013 is a tip of the cap. A thank you for making the 64/60 what it was, a salute if you will to many of the founding fathers who have made the choice to move on from the 64/60 for whatever reasons they may be. For those of you who continue on this journey a tip of the cap to you as well. The 64/60 will once again retool and regroup and return in 2014 as a leader among Fantasy Organizations in the Greater Tri-State area.

While you may not have agreed with the grade, the new Yahoo draft report card if you will is a welcomed edition. Somewhat uniform analysis but still informative none the less. Sorry we here at the 64/60 don't have the time to go next level so the summary below is all you can get. Enjoy!

Draft Recap

Marshall Maniac-Brandon McClung. I enjoy nothing more than ripping the hearts out of small children. My 3rd Round pick of Cam Newton accomplished just this. Peterson and Jones-Drew is easily the most productive backfield within the league. While I like Thomas I would be fearful the addition of Welker will make him a solid 2 rather than a one. Should Thomas produce 2WR value this WR corp could be problematic, likely producing a well below league average group. The QB duo of Roethlisberger and Freeman is the worst duo in the league from a projection standpoint. A career year or two, big Free Agent addition, or a trade from the RB strength will be needed for this team to compete.

Best Pick: Jones-Drew Round 2. Will return to RB1 production
Worst Pick: Antonio Brown Round 5 Nothing more than a low end WR2

Zero Dark 41129-Nate Rice. Apparently Nate enjoys nothing more than ripping the hearts out of grown men. The 11th Round pick of Ben Tate accomplished just that. With 3 RB selections within the first four picks the position is very solid, however for a position with as much emphasis put on it in the draft I personally have questions remaining. While the WR corp doesn't have that high draft pick I'm comfortable with the slotting of Bowe as a 1WR, Moore as a 2WR and Hilton as a 3WR heading into the season. Based on 2012 results the QB combo of Stafford and Tannehill would be a little concerning. Should Stafford bounce back, which I'm banking on as well, this unit will be no worse than league average. The roster has about 4 potential fantasy superstars drafted after the 10th round if the 41129 get some breaks along the way.

Best Pick: Dwayne Bowe Round 4. Top 12 WR this season.
Worst Pick: Shane Vereen Round 6. Personally don't see how he can produce Round 6 value without a injury along the way.

Fowlers Meth Heads-Chris Lee. The man comes in dressed like a 100 dollars and made each selection within 30 seconds or so. Something magical must have been waiting in the wings late Saturday Night. Lady's and gent's Boppy's in love. I really like Vick to return to fantasy relevance this season. If he can find common ground between 2010 and 2012 this could be the best duo within the league. While the RB corp doesn't have that horse you would prefer between the tandem of Bush, McFadden, and Matthews production should be around league average consistently. When you don't draft a WR until the 5th Round of a PPR league you obviously are behind the 8-Ball. While I personally like Amendola, Johnson, and Austin, league average would still seem to be the best case scenario.

Best Pick: Graham Round 3. Best TE by wide margin and worthy of WR1 status.
Worst Pick: Bush Round 2. Fine with Bush as a 1 in a PPR league would just much rather had Jones-Drew.

Johnny Chimpo- Todd Whitley. 64/60 history was made this past Saturday as the Chimpo's become the first 64/60 squad drafted by the marvels of internet communication. While the pic of Todd in his underoos sitting at the end of the table was a little creepy, it was a rather seamless process. Charles really needs to be a one for this ground game to be anything. Ryan and Romo is the safest bet for top QB production in the league. Love Bryant and Colston as a 1-2 WR combo. Would have liked to seen a more apparent number 3 stick out. While I don't see the Manuel hype, he would carry solid trade value in the rare case in which I'm not correct.

Best Pick: Bryant Round 3. I love having that QB and WR combo, Bryant and Romo make the best duo in the 64/60 on paper.
Worst Pick: Seattle Round 7. This roster would look so much better with a Lacy or Miller as a 2RB or a better 3WR option.

BCFP-Josh Coleman. Drafted down and wish I had stayed at 9 the entire night. Foster really needs to be a RB1 in order for this team to be above league average. Given the depth at the position I like my stable of RB. Went in wanting 2QB's in the first two rounds but after Rodgers went at 3 I knew I wouldn't be able to land two of my Top 5 which was the plan going into the draft. Ending up with Newton and Eli won't cause me to lose any sleep, not the best duo in the league but certainly Top 4. If Nelson is healthy I love my Top 3WR but I sure wish I had a more appealing 4th option.

Best Pick: Nelson Round 6. One of my personal faves and I guy I like to return to WR2 status.
Worst Pick: Ben Tate Round 11. How could a Arian Foster owner allow Tate to go to another Team in Round 11. Terrible draft monitoring on my part.

Argumentative 9irons- Rich Coleman. For the first time in about 4 years one person selected throughout the entirety of the 9irons draft. Too bad it was Bopp who's hand was forced due to GRC3 committing the most shameful penalty a Fantasy owner can commit, not showing up to the draft. To compact the issue Bopp did a pretty decent job of drafting for Richard. RB has a lack of depth but if Martin is what Martin is expected to be the position will be league average at worst. Same can be said for QB. Personally I'm not a RG3 fan. Don't like the person nor the player, but productive when healthy last season. Combine with Smith and your likely looking at a league average duo. Green, Smith, and Jackson is a pretty good trio while Witten is a Top 5 TE. If there is a knock to the draft on my part it would be the lack of a potential jewel as no person after Round 10 has solid upside.

Best Pick: No way Witten should be the 6th TE off the board.
Worst Pick: DeSean Jackson Round 5. With two plus WR in fold another RB or 2nd QB would have been a better play here, think Wilson, Mathews, Lacy for example.

Manscraper United- James Hardy. In years past James's draft awareness hasn't been the best. Everyone's been at a draft with that guy, the round 10 "is Jamal Charles still available?". Over that last several years James has committed this penalty a time or two or 100. That was until last Saturday. Perhaps it was the lower amount of alcohol in the system or perhaps a new found hunger to return to a Championship contender. Whatever the reason keep it up Jamison. RB lacks depth but I love McCoy to emerge himself back in the top 5 at the position if that happens Bradshaw and a little luck will be enough. While I don't like Kaep to be a Top 5 at his position, as he was drafted, but combine with Rivers and Cutler it should be enough. Love the top two WR but lack of depth is concerning. With the benefit of having seen the opener Juluis Thomas in Round 14 is looking solid.

Best Pick: LeSean McCoy. Top 3 RB is my projection.
Worst Pick: Jermichael Finley. I don't have a issue jumping multiple rounds to get your guy but not with a 4th Round pick for a back end of the Top 10 WR.

Sons of Jim Mora- Bill Fenney. If nothing else good came from this draft the fact that Bill Fenney had a chance to be in bed by 1AM would make it all worth it. From a roster standpoint you got to love the RB depth and talent. Problem is a hefty premium was placed on it making Pierre Garcon the WR1. Likewise the QB situation isn't ideal. While I love Luck as a QB, I'm not sure the offensive goal is 42k and 40TD at this time. Would have preferred a higher end #2 QB. WHile many are suggesting Bradford takes that step call me skeptical. The depth of RB could very well be needed to make a deal to improve potential issues with WR.

Best Pick: Chris Givens. A 8th Round value for a WR1 from a team that will throw the ball a bit is a winner ever time.
Worst Pick: Matt Forte. With the beauty of hindsight, and seeing how the roster was composed a elite WR should have been the play here.

noAnnoying Dark guys-Mark Christian. While it won't go down as the best rookie draft in the history of the 64/60 it shouldn't be classified as it's worst. The start certainly wasn't the best. Perhaps the timing isn't the best but Manning should not go before Brees. Gronk in the 2nd was way to early for the potential of a 4 week hiatus. After that Marko settled in. While WR doesn't have much depth the top part is solid. The QB duo of Manning and Schaub will work more often than not. RB is a weakness with only one starter on the roster. The start of an email exchange with Fenney should be the first course of action for Christian.

Best Pick: Josh Morgan Round 17. Sure the suspension is problematic but a solid top of the line WR3 is a take everytime in the 17th.
Worst Pick: Gronkowski Round 2. No problem rolling the dice on a early return he just can't go before Graham.

Douchebaggery United- Jesse Ward. While I don't welcome selecting for multiple teams, when a point of focus list is in effect it makes the process much easier. It's rather comical I would much rather have Ward's team than my own. Brees and Palmer is a helluva 1-2 QB combo. Sproles and C. Johnson aren't your dream wish 1-2 but both a pretty solid. The talent and potential output of Calvin Johnson still makes the WR corp a above average group even if Boldin isn't your dream WR3. May be the only team without a rather obvious weakness amongst it's starting lineup.

Best Pick: Greg Jennings Round 9. Jennings will be a Top 30 WR this season.
Worst Pick: Justin Blackmon Round 11. No issues with selecting Blackmon, just should have done it much earlier.

12th Round Kicker- Dave Hobson. Over the years Tom Brady has single handidly cost me thousands. Whither it was betting against him in that infamous tuck rule game or betting on him during this recent Super Bowl/Playoff stretch. Now Tom Brady could cost me a friendship. Either way I was screwed. Ward finds out I bypass Brees for Brady, I'm black-balled. I choose Brees and leave Brady for Hobson verbal assault to the early morning hours, which continued into the morning. Pausing only during sleeping periods and that 20 second stretch when Dave nearly had a heart attack while being awakened by Lucy. I can only hope Hobson is a better man than Jesse. I believe most know he is. So even with Brady the QB unit will be pretty good. Love the starting RB duo of Lynch and Gore. With only 4 RB on the roster some free agency mining and a little luck will be needed. WR unit should be league average or better. Love White at WR1 and Decker at WR3 but not a fan of Wallace at WR2. Even with the question mark of Wallace the depth with Hartline and Tate should provide enough options to choose from.

Best Pick: Golden Tate Round 9. Loved him in college but doubted his upside. Still don't believe he's elite but Wilson seems to favor him. Solid WR3 play.
Worst Pick: Mike Wallace Round 5. From a ADP standpoint the pick is fine, I would have preferred a RB at the Flex position or another WR option.

64/60 Baseball

Week 21 will be known as the week when playoff dreams got away. Four matchups featured a current playoff team playing a team on the outside looking in. All but one of these matchups featured the down and struggling team becoming victorious. In the lone matchup amongst playoff teams the struggling Walls got a much needed win over the BCFP who could have potentially netted the top playoff spot. As this week begins to play out do to last weeks results we have 8 teams vying for 6 playoff spots and all 6 playoff positions up for grabs. BCFP and Free Hat simply need to earn two stats to capture a spot so lets consider them clinched. Emanski, who at 3 games back is the closest to the playoffs not only benefits from playing the Non-contending Takeover but HGH+ vs. GTV and Hat vs. Mashers are two contest that could easily allow for the Deathsquad to play the snake in the grass role. The BC PED's certainly have the toughest task 4 games back to start the week but most daunting is without a doubt the BCFP which stands in their way. As Chris Lee's tenure in the 64/60 comes to an end nothing would be more enjoyable than ending Chris's playoff streak in his final season. Given the above scenario's I'll take the BCFP, Free Hat, Walls, HGH+, and for the final spot I'll go to much hesitation and disdain GTV, who's late season run deserves a minor applause.

Game Recaps

Walls Of Jericho 8 vs. BCFP 4. A badly needed win for Walls who had been victimized in five straight. The decisive victory combined with poor play from the league leaders leaves Bowe only 3.5 back from the top spot but more importantly only 4 stats away from a playoff spot.

Topps: AVG-Walls .312, OPS-Walls .850, SV-BCFP 10
O'Pee Chee: SB-BCFP 4, QS-Walls 3
MVP: Seager .308/2/5/3/1/.918

B'Ville Stars 11 vs. 41129ers 1. In a battle for consolation bracket seating owner oversight lead to a one-sided affair.

Topps: HR-Stars 15
O'Pee Chee: SB-Stars 4, SV-Stars 0
MVP: Ev Lemaster- Has always been known for his performance on the rubber. This week Butch pulled the equivelant of losing a No-hitter by not accounting enough innings during the matchup resulting in a 6-0 sweep for the Stars.

Argumentative 9irons 8 vs. HGH+ 4. Every teams stick struggle at some point. Week 21 was the week the entire HGH offense decided to take a rest.

Topps: ERA-HGH+ 2.44, K/9-HGH+ 8.90, WHIP-9irons 1.03
O'Pee Chee: Runs-HGH+ 30, HR-HGH+ 3, RBI-HGH+ 16, AVG-HGH+ .206, OPS-HGH+ .568
MVP: Shields 2QS 16K .63/.84/10.05

Grand Theft Votto 6 vs. Tom Emanski's Deathsquad 6. Late week comeback possibly potentially saved the season for Emanski. Best part of it all was the damper it put on Jr. after stating he would only be a game out of first in the late hours of Sat. night.

Topps: Runs 46 GTV
O'Pee Chee: NA
MVP: Iwakuma 2QS 14K 2.08/1.15/9.69

The Takeover 9 vs. Scrote Mashers 3. The winner of this matchup has been in the basement for the majority of the season yet over the last two week has went 18-4. The loser in this contest has been amongst the finest the 64/60 has had to offer. As the spotlight on the final playoff spot has become more intense the Mashers have responded by going 5-19. Don't know what to take from it other than it would appear that the Mashers have eliminated themselves from any hope of the top spot at the end of the regular season.

Topps: SB 13 Takeover, K 79 Takeover, QS 10 Takeover
O'Pee Chee: K 49 Scrote, WHIP 1.53 Scrote, K/9 6.36 Scrote
MVP: Victorino .435/3/9/10/1/1.388

BC PEDophiles 6 vs. Free Hat 5. Another late week push could have likely saved the season for the Hats but better yet ended it for the PED's. I won't lie little disappointing would have loved to have eliminated Bopp myself in the weeks final showdown. But Chris's misery and the chance to close the door that is opened ever so slightly will have to do. For the Hat the comeback still gives them a shot at their deserved Top seed and all but locking up a playoff spot.

Topps: RBI 46 Hat
O'Pee Chee: SB 4 Hat, SV 0 Hat
MVP: Greinke 2QS 16K 1.72/.70/9.19

Trade Analysis

HGH+ sends JJ Hardy to Grand Theft Votto for Yovanni Gallardo. It was a frantic final minutes as two owners sit at the 64/60 Headquarters main table and ironed out this down to the last minute final trade of the 2013 Baseball season. In typical fashion, to the best I could recall, Nate was straight to the point with what he wanted. Brandon once again was the more wavering from what he wanted of the two. In the end hard work and a desire to simply make a deal won in the end. I really like the side of the Maniacs in this one. While Gallardo has been very good over the last month of the season his skill set suggest he's still not the same pitcher he was two years ago. Hardy meanwhile, while streaky, is the type of hitter who could give you a .310/4/8/10/0/1.050 slashline easily at a position not strong offensively. Furthermore it makes the roster composition better for the Maniacs by taking away low K totals and ratios in addition to the high WHIP potential from a pitching staff which relies on quality not quantity. For HGH+ the addition of Gallardo has the potential to adversely effect the ratio driven goals of the pitching while also leaving a injured Howie Kendrick as a starter due to the loss of Hardy. It's just so much easier in my mind, especially at this point in the season when teams often run out a 4A lineup card, to find a streaming option to at the least match the high end output of Gallardo than to find a suitable offensive replacement for Hardy.

Pickup Of The Week

Scrote Mashers-Sonny Gray. For the record I don't necessarily believe Gray was the best player acquired this week. Montero to the Hats would likely get those honors. What Gray does have the potential of being is a huge addition to a pitching staff I have been rather ho-hum about all season. Gray could easily find his way on the Waiver Wire after a 3 IP 8ER performance but at this point in the season your looking at not only adding talent but difference making talent at that. The skill set is certainly should those assets pay off no other team addressed a bigger need this week than the Mashers.

Head Scratcher Of The Week

HGH+ drop Trevor Rosenthal for Kevin Siegrist. The issue is more about Siegrist and less about dropping Rosenthal. While Siegrist has been excellent his role is more set in stone. As the lone effective Lefty in the Cards pen he is destined for late inning high leverage matchups. Therefore your looking a plenty of 1/3 of an inning outings making him useless in Non-Hold leagues despite his astonishing K/9. Even with HGH+ Ratio driven pitching strategy I personally am not a supporter of effective setup men. However if you go that route I would prefer the player with not only more of a workload but also next in line should Mujica 's general injuries continue to linger.
