ESPN shows some love to a 16th Region Alum...sort of.

Timmy Knipp, coming soon to 'Justified' on FX.
Well, we would be lying if when Timmy Knipp was setting nets on fire in the 16th Region at Elliot County, we told you we didn't think he would be mentioned on ESPN some day.

This morning was that day. Unfortunately, it wasn't how we imagined it would be done.

Timmy was the last player mentioned by name as part of a few postings, mostly consisting of power rankings, in Eamon Brennan's blog this morning.

Knipp was given the honor of being Brennan's 'Trillion of the night'. It was noted that Knipp logged 6 minutes of playing time in EKU's win over Longwood, and did not accumulate a single stat. The way we look at it, is that the Colonels won their game, and the freshman didn't have an adverse effect on that outcome. What's the news there?

When we did our write-up of OVC happenings late yesterday evening, we were fully aware that Knipp didn't factor into the box-score. We did look for him. No big deal. After all, Knipp is a true Freshman, and not just because he wasn't red-shirted. He is at the level where most players are coming out of high school. I guess ESPN employs those types that like to point out a freshman not accumulating stats. Not every freshman is a Lottery Pick, folks. Knipp will do just fine.

I don't think Brennan was pointing the finger, poking fun, or calling Knipp out by doing this. He has what he believes to be a catchy buzz-word and needed to fill that spot. However, we do feel that his 'buzz-word' is not as catchy as he may think.

In other 16th Region news, the team that is considered the current best of the region, West Carter, will begin play in the Touchstone Energy State All "A" Classic on Thursday. The Comets took down Fairview in Westwood to claim the regional title, and secure there spot in the small-school state tournament. West is gaining a reputation as being a tough and physical team, and they will bring that toughness to Frankfort at the Civic Center. The Comets will be paired against Webster County, the Region 2 champs, Thursday before most folks have let there breakfast settled. Tip-off is 8:00 am. West Carter is led by junior Kyle Brown's scoring, and have not allowed an opponent to break 50 on them more than 5 times this season. Webster has scored 50 plus in their last 4.
