Well, hopefully the sponsoring company of this bowl, can supply the fans of the Loserville Cardinals with some new wardrobes. They can ditch the the Affliction T's and get some proper, non-douche attire. However, the retailer can't do nothing for the neck tats and chin straps...But hey, it's a start right?
Charlie Strong and his dirty birds are going to Charlotte, to play in what used to be the Meineke Car-Care Bowl. Before that, it was the Continental Tire Bowl. So, corporate America still has it's grip on bowl games, and they replace one horrible name with another. The logo is better though. Why can't it be 'The Belk Queen City Bowl(Queen City Bowl was the original name)??? I for one, will be calling this one 'The Naitch Bowl', or 'The Flair Bowl'. I suggest you do the same.
The Cards did better than expected this season, and it came down to the last day before a 3 way tie in the horrible Big East would see the dreaded tie-breaker decide who got the conferences automatic bid into a BCS bowl. Louisville was dead locked with Cincy and WVU for the dubious honor of being the king of the Big East this season.
The Cardinals will be paired up with NC State. Louisville finished the season with a 7-5 record, and the Wolfpack from Raleigh finished with an identical 7-5 mark.
This will be NC State's second trip to the Charlotte-based bowl game. Their last appearance was in 2005, which resulted in a 14-0 shutout of South Florida. The Bowl is operated by Raycom Sports, and is held in Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL's Cam Newton and the Panthers. The Bowl has traditional tie-ins with the ACC, usually sending the 5th place team, and the Big East, sending the 3rd place team as it's delegate. It has an expected pay-out of 1,600,000 dollars, American.
However, the Bowl looks to be showcasing the 4th and 2nd place teams, according to the website for the bowl, from the respective conferences. I haven't, and won't, check the final standings to confirm this.
Louisville makes it two straight years in going to a bowl game. Last season, the Cardinals went to the Beef O'Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl, and beat Southern Miss. 31-28. As mentioned earlier, Louisville finished this season in a 3 way tie for the Big East Conference title.
