Spreadology 2011

Panthers vs. Texans -6. The Texans clinched their first playoff birth in franchise history with last weeks win. DC Wade Phillips who has turned the league worst defense into the leagues top statistically will be absent on the sidelines this week do to health reasons. These two events present reasons to favor the Panthers in a cover or many may side with the Texans. Those who support the Panthers will rationalize the Texans will come out flat after the joys of last week. Those who may favor the Texans could envision a One for the Gipper moment as players circle the wagon for Coach Phillips. I tend to side with the Panthers in this matchup due to Newtons ability to move the chains with his feet. Look for the Panthers to have some long drives scoring in the 20's and making this a FG game in the end.

Packers vs. Chiefs +13.5. Sure this could be a trap game I suppose. The Chiefs come out blazing like Hells Angels having been freed from the Todd Haley regime. Romeo Crennel is now the point man and I fully anticipate everyone giving everything for a man named Romeo. The problem with the Chiefs hasn't been effort it's nothing more than a lack of talent. Orton will be a upgrade over Palko assuming he is a go but outside of Bowe the offense is void of anything resembling a playmaker. Therefore the Chiefs are just not equipped at exploiting the Packers D which has had it's share of struggles in 2011. Packers win by 4 scores and were not talking FG's here.

Ravens vs. Chargers +2.5. This line reminds me of the stench coming off Andrew after a three day drinking binge involving a trip to the Crat. The Ravens are in the mix for the top teams in the AFC while the Chargers are in the conversation as the most underachieving team in the league. If I have said it once I've said it a thousand times take the most shocking line on the board and make it the first game you dismiss because it is clear the suits are smelling suckers. Call me Dum-Dums because I can't resist. I have watched the Chargers on about 5-6 different occasions throughout the season and the fact they cannot pass protect has not changed even during their recent resurrection. Suggs and Co. should provide enough pressure to allow the Ravens secondary to stay committed the the Chargers WR depth making it difficult for the Chargers to move the ball without a resemblance of a running game. Flacco won't make it pretty but look for Boldin and Rice to do enough on offense to make this a two score game in the end.

RECAP: Panthers +6, Ravens -2.5, Packers -13.5

YTD: 30-21
