Just one game removed for Marshall's chance to shine on the national spotlight and upset the soon to be kings from Syracuse, The Herd has another challenge ahead today with national ramifications.
In about an hour at the Cam, DeAndre Kane and the Big Green will attempt to unseat the nation's top offense when the Iona Gaels come to Jewel City. Marshall only allows on average about 60 points a game , while the Gaels are scoring roughly 90 points each time out on the floor. That mark for the New York school, is good enough to lead the nation in team scoring average.
However, as shown against Syracuse, The Herd is very capable of crashing the boards and they will almost always beat you in that category. Matter of fact, Marshall is ranked 8th in the nation when it comes to cleaning the glass, collecting more than 40 boards per game. That mark has been lead by the performance of Dennis Tinnon, who gets the garbage about 10 times per game.
Damier Pitts is also a weapon for the Herd, seemingly scoring in double-figures every game. To be exact, he has done so in Marshall's last six outings.
Iona is led by the scoring of Mike Glover, who is good for about 19 a game, and he is almost averaging a double-double on the season, as he brings down about 9 boards per game. Glover is complimented by point guard Scott Machado, who's dishing the ball for scores about 11 times a game, averaging 10.8, and helping the Gaels reach about 21 assists per game. Machado leads the nation in assists.
Iona comes to Huntington with a 7-1 mark, with the lone blemish being a loss to Purdue in Puerto Rico. Marshall stands at 5-2, with loses to Syracuse and Ohio University.
The game is not being broadcast on TV, but you can listen live on the radio. Also, if you can get to the Henderson Center in about 10 minutes, tickets are only $5 for this particular game.
