Tonight, the Scarlet and White will get a chance to take a glimpse at what the future of Kentucky football will be. Highlands' QB Patrick Towles is signed and ready to begin life as a Wildcat, but first he has his senior year and a state title to defend. And that is really unfortunate For the County.
Simply put, Boyd County, while they fight hard, are just too small and too young to make much playoff noise. They have already lost thier QB. Let's hope that they don't lose much more when facing the Bluebird juggernaut.
Everybody in Kentucky knows about Highlands, or Ft. Thomas Highlands. They have won the last 4 Kentucky State 5A titles, including last year's 50-0 route of Christian County.
5A??? But the Lions are 4A, surely this must be a typo... Nope. In reasoning that defies any sort of logic to me, the KHSAA allowed Highlands to move down in classification. Yeah, that seems fair.
And, this year's team is feasting on 4A much like they did 5A, going undefeated and scoring at will... I pray for my nephews very life in this one folks.
We don't have to tell you that Highlands has sent numerous players to schools such as UK, Purdue, Tennessee, and even UNLV. We don't have to remind you of all the players that have went on to the NFL from Highlands. Of which include Jared Lorenzen and Marty Moore, who comes to town for his football camp. Both of those men have won Super Bowl rings. We won't have to even think about mentioning that Highlands is the 2nd winningest football program in the nation. And we won't have to mention that Former Bengal great Chris Collinsworth's son is now suiting up for Notre Dame, a year after winning the 2010 state crown.
But, BC is not playing the past that Highlands can boast of. They are playing the present, which is not any easier. D1 signees, undefeated season, defending champions of a class higher 4 years running, and an offense that can light up the scoreboard.
If you have any connections to the Sweet Hour of Prayer Ladies Groups at local churches, call em' up now.... This one is not going to be pretty for the Lions.
The odds are less likely that BC will pull off an upset here than it was at Lake Placid.
