After five weeks of the season nine teams are within at least one game of .500. The next three weeks could easily shift the fortunes of each of these squads. Welcome to Bye Week Fantasy Football, where perhaps the most random competition manages to become even more so. Think about it each week the outcomes of games are decided by two to three players. It is highly likely the owners who have players facing the defenses of the Broncos, Chiefs and the like will have a distinct advantage over players facing the Ravens or 49ers. As a owner you tend to believe that over the course of a 14 Week regular season this matchups will balance out and the most talent will settle to the top and more often than not it does. In the two QB (I know, I know, everyone loves the setup), deep benched 64/60 the Bye Week can be hell. Try finding one quality FA out there. Now imagine filling five or six while your opponent may only need to fill one. Let's say you get lucky and only need to fill two spots like your opponent however he is replacing two 4th and 5th flex options while your left without your top WR and RB. And how about that QB who has a bye and leaves you with only one on your roster. You would have a better chance seeing Jason Keyser working the drive thru at Sam's Hot Dog than nabbing a starting QB on the Waiver Wire. Thus leaving you banking on another Michael Vick injury or Rex Grossman becoming Rex Grossman to get any points from a backup. So for *, Curtis Painters Mane, and Big Sweety's Argumentative 9irons their is hope that these next three weeks can bring you good fortunes. I will certainly be interesting to see how many teams will still be within a game of .500 once the bye weeks put their mark on the 2011 season.
GAME RECAPS
Seneca Wallace 172 vs. BCFP 169. Hard for a matchup to be any better than this as two of the top three scoring teams went Head to Head. The Factory was feeling good holding a 14 point lead against those young up and comers who time after time have crumbled under the pressure of my presence. In the end the Wallace's had done enough and in no way did my loss have anything to do with being force to start the likes of Emmanuel Sanders, Jacoby Ford, and Derrick Mason (yes he's still playing). Champions such as myself do not use excuses in defeat we choose to take the high road.
Sons Of Jim Mora 145 vs. Barboursville Stars 129. Bill's reputation as a fantasy owner goes beyond the 64/60. Recently I was having a conversation with a owner from another league Bill is in. After he brokedown his depth chart and took a momentary pause I jumped in and asked him about Bill's team. He stopped and seemed to reflect internally about Bill's draft and early start. Upon his conclusion the owner uttered the word SOLID. I think everyone within the 64/60 would agree. The loss of the Stars gives them two in three games and has me to conclude that the wounds I administered we be felt for quite sometime.
The Team who's success has been built on 19th Rd pick Cam Newton who has performed over his head and will mark my words have some down weeks when needed the most 160 vs. * 141. I made some comments on Cam Newton several weeks ago calling his early season production a fraud. Last week after I had watched the Panthers for a second straight week it occured to me that Newton will be a consistent option this season as the Panthers seem more than willing to live and die by him. With that said, Newton will be a risky option at times this season and will not be the weekly 20+ point performer that I have so been often reminded he has been. So McClung instead of the weekly wrap up point total via text, from this point forward please send me a drive by drive point total so I am aware each and every time he turns the ball over. Three Penis Wine never was a franchise name. Perhaps if I knew the root of the idea I would appreciate it more but the retail person in me just couldn't see a team hat in the 64/60 Sports store. So for the moment * will do. Strip yourself down and build a name brand one game at a time.
12th Round Kicker 168 vs. TRB 122. The streets of the Gate City were abuzz in Week 1 and the 2-1 start got Big Ev planted in front of the Computer screen every Sunday working out some back room deals and potential blockbuster. Two staright losses however has Butchie inching closer and closer to the panic button and wishing that Mr. Ward could help him out of this one. Chad Henne + IR + BYE + Brandon Gibson + BYE= 46 point win and the 4th highest point total for the most charmed man in 64/60 Fantasy Football.
Chump Slayers 171 vs. Busy Beavers 141. The battle for first place resulted in the first loss of the season for the Beavers. Eight players in double digits for the Chump Slayers coasted him to the win while the Busy Beavers posted the hat trick with three players posting goose eggs in a Bye week ravaged lineup. Jamison I'm still waiting on that proposal and if history is any indication I encourage you to protect yourself in the upcoming weeks. This request may not make sense to you now, but like the note left by Marty McFly to Doc Brown, someday it will.
Curtis Painters Mane 158 vs. Argumentative 9irons. First win of the season, Tim Tebow takes the reigns and the name change gets two thumbs up from Gilbert. Could it be that Christopher Lee is in the opening process of the greatest turnaround in 64/60Football history? Or perhaps the Argumenative 9irons are the leagues biggest pushovers, Tim Tebow isn't the chosen one and Christopher Lee will still be making excuses and blaming the league setup for all of his problems? Time will tell.
PICKUP OF THE WEEK
Josh Morgan- Curtis Painters Mane. Morgan isn't flashy. He's not a player you get excited about from a Wow standpoint but what he is, is the current top WR option for the 49ers who seemed to be a more effecient offense this season. To grab a potential 5 rec per week player for $0 FAAB in this league is quite a catch. Awesome ownership Bopp. I give you praise for the nabbing of Morgan and you promptly drop him the following day. To bad the pickup award can't be taken back.
HEAD SCRATCHER OF THE WEEK
Sons of Jim Mora drop Eric Decker. Tough to be critical of this move without knowing the Bye week roster situation. Make no mistake I feel Decker's value was hurt with the naming of Tebow as a starter but without four full quarters of football how can you know for sure. Decker had been a Top 50 overall player the last three weeks prior to this weeks no show. So who was the real Eric Decker? With the limited player pool it would be worth it to me to play it out a couple of weeks.
