The preseason All American selections from SI came out yesterday afternoon... And some kid named Harrison Barnes(who is a freshman at UNC) made the first team selection... Is he better than John Wall? nope. But he is the first freshman to be a first teamer in a long bit, and he was also named to the AP All-American squad, the first freshman to ever do so. He is being saddled as the savior of the Heels...but I think that those are too lofty right now... The lights come up, and right now he gets timid...John Wall thrived...Barnes will get accustomed to it, and he will prosper nicely..But I do not agree with putting him as high as they have, when John Wall was light years above where Barnes is now at the start of last season...
But the real reason to cover this announcement is Sports Illustrated made a selection that hit home. Morehead State Senior Kenneth Faried was named to the 3rd team... Hasn't been that kind of individual hype since Ricky Minard was bombing 3's and Phil Simms was throwing at the pile-ons back in the day.
SI also listed Faried as the #2 in their listing of the nation's best defenders.
So, here is to the braided one and his contageous smile and innocence. Good to see a kid like Kenneth be rewarded like this...
I am going to be attending several Morehead games this season, and I am gonna keep my eye on a team that may very well win the OVC again and find it's way back to the madness..
