For those out their who wonder why they can't be Wiseguys, no need to luck any further than last weeks Spreadology post. After eight successful weeks of picking winners one bad week essentially wiped out all the good that had happened. The 1-4 mark from last week brought my yearly record to 20-15 for a 57% winning clip. Still enough to make money but your not going to be living the high life as you have been accustomed to following this segment. I would like to say that I have a slew of winners for you but truth be told these 5 releases have a confidence rating of about six on a scale to 10. For the record through past experiences I have found that these are the weeks were you go on a run. If that proves to be true once again then you may want to up the investments with these selections.
Michigan State vs. Iowa -6.5. This is certainly the toughest remaining game on the Spartans schedule. The Hawkeyes D will be the best unit the Spartans have faced this season so points should be at a premium. The Spartans have also had success this season on the defensive side of the ball and the Hawkeyes have had some issues on the offensive side of the ball at times. I like the Hawkeyes to pull of the win however MSU + the 6.5 is to good of value to pass up. Expect a FG margin in a Hawkeyes win.
Northwestern vs. Indiana +3.5. I would love to provide you with some statistical breakdown but I can't. I know neither team has been impressive this season. In fact both teams shinning moments have been in defeat. For Indiana it was a 35-42 loss to Michigan and the Wildcats loss last week to the Spartans 27-35. What I do know is that Pat Fitzgerald is a good coach and that Northwestern is one win of becoming Bowl eligible. If you look at their remaining schedule this figure to be the easiest test. The Cats pass.
Broncos vs. 49ers PK. The NFL really wants their product to be global so this matchup will be played in London. Which makes me wonder, If the NFL truly wants to market their product why showcase the Broncos or 49ers against each other? A interesting stable of QB's in this mathcup 4 first round draft picks, 2 #1 overall picks and 2 Heisman Trophies. Of all those accolades the lone serviceable QB in the game is Kyle Orton who isn't the answer to any of them. For the record the 4 First Round Draft Picks are Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow, David Carr and Alex Smith. Smith and Carr were the #1 picks and Tebow and the 49ers starting QB in the game Troy Smith were the Heisman Winners. Despite Singletary's claim that the 49ers will make the playoffs the wins needed won't start this week. I'll take the serviceable QB.
Redskins vs. Lions -2. I like the Lions. I like the helmets I love the Thanksgiving Day Lions game. I think Johnson is a absolute stud and is a Top 5 player in terms of ability in the NFL. Best is a HR waiting to happen. And Stafford appears to have a bright future ahead much to my surprise. However the days of the Lions being a favorite haven't arrived. The Skins haven't looked good at any point this season but they have managed a 4-3 record. McNabb will once again do enough in the passing game and Torrain will rack up over 100yds and the D will force a timely TO down the stretch.
Seahawks vs. Raiders -1. The Raiders scored 59 points last week which is about 4 weeks worth for the Raiders. This Raiders team isn't the Raiders of old. The D is a middle of the road unit in terms of yardage but McClain, Seymour and the CB with the long last name give the D some playmakers. On offense McFadden finally has seemed to arrive and Bush is not a bad back up plan. The Passing game only needs to avoid turning the ball over for this team to push for a playoff spot. Outside of a win over the turnovering bears the Hawks have been awful on the road. I like for the trend to continue this week.
Recap: MSU +6.5, Nortwestern -3.5, Redskins +2, Raiders -1, Broncos PK
