Well, we have had quite a week-end.....And it for most of us, it ended with an exclamation point...
First, we have Midnight Madness... As soon as 7:30 struck the clock, I could since a disturbance in the force, yep, the blood was flowing to Ev's mid-section...He was getting excited...as was the rest of the Empire. And I can not express the beauty of Sarah Beth Barnette enough...She is a native 'Tuckian, and I even took my my *ahem* fandom to all new levels by sending her a freind request on a certain social network that I belong to...yes. That happened. I can only imagine it should not be long before stalker charges and EPO's are filed...
Can you really top Enes Kanter's entrance? In a word no. But don't let girls coach Matt Mitchell's 'dougie' be lost in the hysteria...
So after I watched it twice, the original airing and the replay and stayed the hell away from any ESPN coverage of it at all, I was left with a level of excitement that can only be described as leaving prom and heading to the after-party...Ev called me and I could tell that he was frantically pacing around Wadkins thinking he was not going to be able to watch the first Live airing due to Armstrong not carrying Fox Sports South and FSN Ohio, which splits to basically be FSN Kentucky from time to time was not about to pre-empt some fabulous Cleveland Cavs coverage they had going on... So after I explained Cable TV and the two services and packages Armstrong offers for the 100,000,000,099th time to him, He figured it out and turned it on WKYT...Wadins was spared and allowed to live another day...
Next... well we have what I like to think of as feeding Ev a shitburger.. MIKE HARTLINE led the CATS to an upset victory over #10 South Carolina... The rest of state media and myself have already covered the game, but I have to think that Ev was stunned and felt a little embarassed fo rhis harsh comments he makes, routinely, about the Football Program... He wants it to go away, not realizing the dominoe affect such actions would have on the BASKETBALL program... I just don't see how people can be so fanatic about our Hoops team and loathe our football team... Is it because of the lackluster success??? but, it goes with the territory, there are a Ton of fairweather fans out there in the Empire...Some will tell you there are a thousand more who feel this way, but they are found on the mesage boards of Cat's Pause...not exactly a brain trust known for logical and rational thinking...
I wish I could write something about the Baseball Post-Season and not cringe... but I can't... Except that I am rooting against the Yankees as always, and pulling for the Giants...They look like the old Burg teams... that qualifies... First, the Redlegs go bust, which I am very comfortable with the future of Jockety's Jocks, but from August to the ball we playe din September and then going 3 and out in the Dance, If you crunch the numbers, that has to be one of the biggest collapses in MLB' recent history...But, I'm still Better off RED...woobah...
My other favorite, The Bravos, has a similar run in the post-season, but they sent Bobby Cox out with a bang...A great way to end what had been a great manageial career. Ted Turner made the best move in the history of his lowly franchise since the move from Milwaukee when he let Bobby Cox leave the from office and hire himself as the skipper...
The Herd may be plundering through the season, and not in the Leif Ericson pilage the woman and burn the village type of way...But they are young... I can't stress that enough Huntington...
Speaking of the Herd, they had their version of Midnight Madness on Saturday...I have remotely enjoyed the times I have spent in the Henderson Center watching games, weither as a paying customer or holding a camera for WOWK over the years.. And, one would think that a new coach, after Donnie Jones bailed for a program that was in worse shape than Marshall, and in the same conference, and losing the phenom Hassan Whiteside after only one year to the NBA, you would think it was going to be doom and gloom...Not so... And not to sound too much like Keith Morehouse pumping Marco from behind, but I think the Herd is going to be good this year.. And I can see them being in the mix for the C-USA title with Memphis and ...well...Houston? This years game against WVU in Charleston has so many intagibles and back-story that I am going to have to make the trek there this winter and take it in...Besides, the game comes across on TV worse than Kentucky's doo... it's like watching it live on PBS.
The SEC was blown wide the ef open over the weekend, and the Cats are in the hunt..seriously...
Texas upset Nebraska, causing even more BCS ramifications and continuing to widen the crack in the door to let TCU and Boise State break on through to the other side... I really like a National Title game of Oregon and Oklahoma though...
Cincinnati and Louisville playing who do you root for??? Bearcats....or maybe the Cards??? toss up, would like to hear some opinions on this one... Louisville, while it is the Devil, is Kentucky's largest city, and Cincinnati is basically a Kentucky city that Ohio pays for...
How about those World Equestrian Games??? well, how bout' em'? But i am glad that the Arabs game in and gave the state economy a shot in the arm...
Before I rap this up, have to mention Randall Cobbs post-game tweets and retractions... Go to KSR to read what he said, but let me just say this, He was spot on with is feelings, maybe he should have bottled them up, but you could tell this young man had been doing that a while now...I think to think those were directed at Ev...
The Darius Rucker show in Lexington has now been postponed until further notice....
.....Oh yeah, Ohio State.... One week... how did it feel? That Sweater-Vest still fitting right?
And with Christmas coming up, I find it only fitting to say this... In my house, we fix peanut butter balls, not Buckeyes!!! However, The SEC and now the Badgers eat Buckeyes like candy...
Did you know if you google 'spinebuster' there are more pictures of Batista than Arn Anderson??? IN-FUCKIN'-JUstice!!!!!
Keeneland is open now... Go lose you money now... but don't worry, Brady's got some Birthday money left...
THis just in........Ironton scores again....
ADI, you should be ashamed.
