It's been a while since we had us an MMA Fist F@#k post....However, this time, I am not going to hype and upcoming UFC PPV(Live Saturday Night from London,England...Well, not too LIVE), I am not going talk about Strikeforce, or the deal they have with Batista, or how ludicris it is for him to think he can call the shots. I am not even going to talk about Paul Heyman, and how he says he had a deal with SPIKE and TNA and it fell though and he is bringing his talents to MMA, which does not mean that their is going to be a thumbtack barbed wire deat match in the octagon...But Brazil maybe....And I am not going to talk about my apparent fandom of Dan Hardy or how I think that Cain Velasquez(sic) will upset Brock Lesnar and put a huge damper on Brocktober...
What I am going to talk about how a certain individual made remarks and comments on how foolish it was to say MMA and Pro Wrestling were one in the same...It was an arguement that I won, yet certain individuals again would make assumptions that they did...Those Individuals would still be wrong...Now this is not verbatem, and I don't want to spend too much time rehashing word for word the logic behind my claim, which is a fact...You can search the archives and see the statements for themselves if you need more than this refresher.. Basically, what I had stated was that UFC, not just Strikeforce, was guilty of using theatrics and presentation as thier hook to bring in viewers and to sell seats, same as WWE,WCW,ECW, NWA, SMW, etc. Certain indiviuals pleaded with your's trully to stop doing that, it was stupid... They would blast Strikeforce for their antics and promotion of their product...which I liked and still like. I'd much rather listen to Gus Johnson than Mike Goldberg. I'd much rather be entertained for 2 hours than to watch someone in a guard position. Why? not because I do not like the technique and the struggle.. I love the science and art of it all, but because I am paying 75 dollars or a cable bill to be entertained. Fireworks and catchy video promos and trash talk help that out...
Now, after me from day one of the UFC craze way back in the mid-90's, saying that it may be actual combat and not pre-determined but it is a pro wrestling show. After people like Paul Heyman, Dan Severn, Jim Cornette and countless others share my view of it...well...one of the top paid UFC guys finally came out and said it was exactly that...
The Ultimate Fighter is MMA's equivalent to Monday Night Raw, or TNA Impact, WCW saturday Night, whatever... They build up aspects of each fighters personalities. They show you what they want to show you .. They control every detail of the show.... They make you see what they want you to see and nothing else... They create an emotional tie, positive or negative with their fighters in the audience...get past the part where the stuff in the ring is real, it's the pre-fight and post-fight that matters here.. it's the build-up.. It is Pro Wrestling... and Josh Koschek says so.
The newest Ultimate Fighter, the show where Dana White introdces new fighters trying to get that brass ring of oppurtunity are shown week in and week out going through training, living in the house, conflict and tension, alliances being forged and personality clashes... Josh Koschek realizes that there are a lot of fans who do not like him... They don't like his brash arrogance... I am one of those who does not like him...Oddly though, I am a big fan of Tito Ortiz.. Koscheck knows that everyone's fav is GSP. The flawless performer. Perhaps the best in the world. His clean living and his total devotion to his craft. So what does Koschek do? who plays the heel... He stated that on this season of TUF, he is going to play this up. He is going to do things to purposely infuriate viewers and other fighters on GSP's team, and GSP himself... Because he knows it is going to be good for business and add to the DRAMA of the show and to the eventual blow-off of him and GSP on PPV. How groundbreaking that is... you have fighters/combatants/athletes/ interact with one another, you pit them face to face in a competition, you play up conflicts between them, you have them cut promos about one another and then you have it resolved in the ring...For the last and final time, I am going to say this... UFC is a pro wrestling promotion. Any MMA event you go to or watch on TV is a pro wrestling promotion...they are one in the same...
And if you still can't see this, then you are really trying to repress the fact that you like pro wrestling...UFC came about and all of the sudden you could latch on to it and not have to be afraid of being made fun of for liking wrestling because this was real and and the new it thing...And all the while you were too stupid to realize that you were still watching pro wrestling...You take away all the entertainment aspects of MMA and what you have is Olympic Wrestling, and nobody is going to watch that except for maybe once every four years.... Or you could just keep denying the simple fact that they are the same beast and continue to be a tard...Those nifty affliction shirts could just as easily say Hulk-a-mania on them...Brother.

It would appear by accident that I have pretty much mirrored thoughts I had already worded time and time again on this issue... To those who are smart enough to realize the points made here, I apologize... Next time.... Got no choice but to build up Lesnar/Cain(not the brother of the undead Undertaker)
P.S. Sorry Rich, we know that you don't like to read about rasslin'...

mma is to pro rasslin, as baseball is to a broadway play about baseball.

mma is to pro rasslin; as Micheal Jordans career is to the movie space jam

Cane Tuckee said...

-You have obviously never seen Damn Yankees...
-Jordan's performance was more believable in Space Jam than his tenure in Washington.
TV MMA is the same formula as TV Wrestling... You are focusing too much on the Pre-determined outcomes of matches... MMA tried that pre-determined outcome stuff, but somebody wouldn't take a dive to Kimbo.. Which means that Pro Wrestlers are more co-operative with strangers and less likely to let your barrow 5 bucks.

Yet another arguement won by todd.

If you consider yourself the winner of the argument , we were obviously in different conversations.

So I'm clear and please correct me if I'm wrong:

Gilbert's Point
-MMA has borrowed the time tested tactic of hyping up a fight with drama and other non-fight related activities in order to develop more interest and, therefore, sell more tickets; similar to pro wrestling.

Todd's Point
-MMA=real, pro wrestling=fake

Todd,

Are you arguing that MMA (UFC, Strikeforce, etc) does not do as Gilbert has transcribed? The reason I ask is that I think we all agree with your point as I've summarized it.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Jesse

That's it in a nut shell... They are both businesses, they both practice business the same way, they are the same business, it's the same product with one differing variable(Legit outcomes compared to pre-determined). They share the same audience, because 80% of said audience watch both due to regarding it as similar, if not the same products.
It seems that all todd can do is knuckle-drag around and say MMA Real Pro Wrestling fake unga bunga..

HAHAHAHHAHAHA

It would appear that way.
