Coleman's Commentary

* Mark Ryan Mallet's name of the Heisman Trophy. Three INT's in the biggest game for Arkansas in 30 years. The final two picks came at crucial times with the game on the line. The final one set up the Tide on the game winning drive. The Heisman is often decided by moments. Mallet's 2010 campaign will be defined by this.

* It has been quite sometime since a game on the ticker has suprised me more than the UCLA vs. Texas game. The Longhorns haven't looked good at any point this season and yes the Bruins are a major school from a major conference but the Bruins have been really bad and you not only lose but lose by 22. The inability to run the football was hidden somewhat by the great play of Colt McCoy. Gilbert may meet the hype one day but a Soph QB who is a pocket type QB needs a running game. The Red River Rivalry has lost some of its hype with the Longhorns setback but the winner will likely still coast to a BCS game.

* Jim Harbaugh has completely transformed Stanford into a Big Ten style team. They run the ball really well and run their offense primarily out of I, 2-TE Sets and other Jumbo type packages. While most eyes will be on Bama Florida Saturday I believe the most interesting game will be the Cardinal vs. the Ducks in Eugene. Certianly will be a nice matchup in terms of conflicting styles.

* Speaking of Harbaugh his troops dismantled my beloved Irish this past Saturday. Many doubters of Brian Kelly are no doubt screaming from the mountain tops after the 1-3 start. Please keep in mind however that heading into this week they could have easily been 3-0 and ranked in the top 15 in the country. Until Stanford punched them in the face the offense had been more effecient from a drive by drive standpoint then last years and the defense has made modest improvements it would seem. My hopes of a suprise 10 win season are shot but the upcoming schedule eases up a bit and a 8-7 win season with a bowl seems realistic.

* This past week's slate of games were pretty weak however Week 5 will make up for it. Florida vs. Bama, Stanford vs. Oregon, Texas vs. Oklahoma, Wisconsin vs. Michigan State, Penn State vs. Iowa are all contest featuring two teams in the BCFP Top 25 facing off. Also Miami travels to Clemson the winner would likely be the favorite going forward in the ACC.

* LSU could be the worst big time program in the game today and it all comes down to the QB. Facilities and home field advantage are elite. Overall team depth and talent level year after year is one of the countries best. Miles is a acquired taste I suppose but he has won a National Title and certainly isn't afraid to go against the grain which isn't always a bad thing. Yes he could use a game management consultant at the end of games. But the biggest reason this team underperforms and seems to always be tested is QB or lack their of. Watched Jordan Jefferson on Saturday Night and it seems to me he is simply miscast in their offense. LSU doesn't run a Spread Option attack of say Michigan or WVU and it would seem that Jefferson would be better suited using his legs 70% of the time. LSU's offense is more balanced and they don't employee the Spread Option attack as a base offense. If LSU could land a traditional pocket passer or a more effective passer in general they have the talent to contend for a title year in and year out.

* I fully intended to devote my evening hours on Saturday to the Boise St/ Oregon State matchup on ABC. And although I flipped to the game on occasion it's hard to pass up on the SEC Saturday Night Matchup. The game is more intense, the hitting is harder and although I don't use a stopwatch during the game they do seem to be played at a increased speed and the depth of the SEC seems to cater to close contest. I liked Auburn coming into the season and thus far they haven't disappointed. If Cam Newton can be a effective passer this offense could be very dangerous.

It was only an observation.

The content is great! The participation has been lacking lately. That is all.

It comes and goes. No need to get hostile.

Peace homie.
