In-N-Out The 64/60 Week 8

Week 8 marked the completion of 1/3 of the season. With this is mind I feel it is really safe to pencil in the 9irons, Dingers and Colonels with playoff spots. Up to this point they have all been remarkably consistent and unless a plethora of injuries decimate their rosters this consistency will be enough. It is also safe to eliminate the Duckies from any playoff conversations. Even if Strasburg emulates the Rookie season of a Dwight Gooden the lack of offense and absent management will prevent a playoff push. Considering all of this that leaves 8 teams battling for 3 Playoff Spots. As I have stated before this season appears as though it will be one to remember and hopefully for all the right reasons.

Week 8 was another blowout week. Only one game was decided by less than 4 Stats. That matchup featured the BC Dingers and Prestige Worldwide and ended in a 6-6 tie. For those of you who are keeping a weekly standing record the Dingers have been in 2nd place for two weeks now. The Dingers still have the best W/L record in the league but over the last two weeks the Dingers are a mere 8-16. I am sure this is because of the matchups but that is life in a Head-To-Head league. As for Prestige it is another tough fought matchup that wasn't rewarded with a W. Prestige Worldwide is all to familiar with the tough matchups thus far on the season he has had 3 ties and 3 contest decided by less than three stats. In other league action the league leading 9irons coasted to a easy W over the ORC. After losing back to back contest in Weeks 4 and 5 the 9irons have won 3 in a row and in dominate fashion by a 29-6 combined score. Even though I have been critical of ownership the 9irons have kept their focus on the field. As for the Carp they are heading in the opposite direction. The Carp have now lost 4 of 5 contest and have been outscored 22-34 over that period. Tough to pinpoint what the problem is but Zimmerman and Votto have both had the dreaded Day-To-Day injury throughout the season. The Hebrewers and 41129ers both hit the 10 spot this week with big Wins over the Duckies and Smackers. The Smackers are another squad who are falling fast. The Smackers have lost three straight and have been outscored 7-27 over that span. Not only have the Smackers struggled on the field but Jesse Ward has been non-existent on the SmackTalk circuit as well as on the blog. Jesse Ward where have you gone? The B'Ville Stars broke a two game skid with a victory over Hell and Damnation. Hell and Damnation have now lost three games in a row and have only one win on the season. No doubt H&D can take a licking but can they give one out? Finally the Hendo Colonels have now one 4 in a row and find themselves 4 games behind the top spot and .5 games behind the Dingers. The Factory once again falls victim to poor pitching and inconsistent play.

Game Recaps

Hendo Colonels 8 vs. BCFP 4. Colonels strong pitching leads the way to a easy win over the Factory.

MVP- Johnathan Broxton 3 SV, 4K, 0.00 ERA, .55 WHIP, 9.82 K/9

Weekly Highs- Colonels: SB 14

BC Dingers 6 vs. Prestige Worldwide 6. The only real contest of the week as once again Prestige Worldwide is in a battle and the Dingers avoid a loss.

MVP- Carlos Gonzalez .421 AVG, 3 HR, 9 Runs, 5 RBI, 2 SB, 1.489 OPS

Weekly Highs- NA

Argumentative 9irons 9 vs. Ohio River Carp 3. The Carp's offense was nothing short of terrible. Failed to top 30 in either Runs or RBI. Both Pitching staffs were fabulous both posted ERA under 3, WHIP below 1.11 and K/9 above 8.35.

MVP- Jon Lester 2QS, 14K, .69 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 9.69 K/9

Weekly Highs- 9irons: RBI 48, K 87, WHIP 1.05, QS 10

Maccabi Hebrewers 10 vs. Rubber Duckies 2. The Hebrewers shedded the small ball label this week with the leagues best offensive performance. The Duckies finally made some roster moves with the assistance of the Commissioner.

MVP- Miguel Cabrera .615 AVG, 4 HR, 4 Runs, 8 RBI, 0 SB, 2.231 OPS

Weekly Highs- Hebrewers: Runs 51, HR 13, AVG .332, OPS 947

LeMaestro's 41129ers 10 vs. Tude Smackers 1. The 41129ers had excellent pitching and benifitted from a terrible offensive week from the Smackers to gain the weeks biggest beatdown.

MVP- Jose Bautista .333 AVG, 2 HR, 4 Runs, 8 RBI, 1.499 OPS

Weekly Highs- 41129ers: ERA 2.08, QS 10 Smackers: SV 9

Barboursville Stars 9 vs. Hell and Damnation 2. The Stars continue to solidify themselves as likely playoff squad.

MVP- Adam Wainwright 2 QS, 20 K, 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 12.86 K/9

Weekly Highs- NA

Season Highs and Season Lows Set This Week

Highs- Hendo Colonels SB 14, Hebrewers AVG .332, Smackers SV 9-T, 41129ers ERA 2.08, 41129ers/9irons QS 10-T

Lows- Carp Runs 19, Smackers HR 3-T, H&D AVG .199, Smackers OPS .604, 41129ers/Duckies SV 0, Duckies K 29, BCFP ERA 6.64, Prestige K/9 4.60, BCFP QS 1

Head Scratcher of THe Week

LeMaestro's 41129ers- Every Monday I get a call from Everett Lemaster with his anger toward the streaming of pitchers. Now Everett Lemaster has joined the circus. The 41129ers have decided to take the if you can't beat them join them approach and I wish him well in his pursuit. The issues I have with the front office is the release of Mat Latos. Latos has been a top 20 pitcher thus far in 2010 and has had 6 consecutive QS. With a ERA just over 3 and a WHIP of 1.01 Latos will deserves a permanent roster spot and likely won't clear Waivers.

Pickup of the Week

Hell and Damnation- Gavin Floyd. Floyd has had a rough go of it thus far but the underlying numbers point toward a rebound and Hell and Damnation is in much need of some quality pitching. It must run in the household.

The 64/60 at the NFBC

Once again in 5th place out of 12 teams. It was a good week for the 64/60 however as we moved up 48 spots in the overall standings to 104 of 288. Are pitching has been solid even though Sabathia has struggled of late. Offensively we have been good but we could really use some production from are number one pick Prince Fielder.
