Fantasy Fundamentals From The Factory: Minor League Rundown

Within the last two week Stephen Strasbug, Mike Stanton and Pedro Alvarez have all been brought up to begin their major league careers. With that magical June 7th date behind us it seems that everyday a minor leaguer is being brought up in some type of role. More often than not these players provide little fantasy fanfare. They are often a extra bullpen arm or another bat on the bench but all of the aforementioned players had fantasy owners salivating at a oppurtunity to get their hands on them. Per the request of Big Ev the Factory took a look at some players who may see their name called in the near future. All of these players could have some type of value this season and would all likely be owned in most fantasy formats. Since the majority of players that are brought up typically reside in Triple A I decided to take a look at both the International League and the Pacific Coast League and although they may not have the star potential of a Strasburg many of these players could produce some solid numbers in a short stint.

International

Dayan Viciedo 3B White Sox- Nix likely isn't the answer going forward so if the White Sox continue to fall in the standings look for a youth movement.

.288 13HR .843 OPS

Josh Bell 3B Orioles- Seem to be committed to the rebuilding with the call up of Arrieta and Tillman over the last two weeks and the struggles of Garrett Atkins look for Bell this season.

.270 7HR .750 OPS

Desmond Jennings OF Rays- Talks are heating up that the Rays may indeed bring Jennings up sooner rather than later. Most thought Jennings would replace Crawford next season but that may not be the case.

.290 14SB .783 OPS

Dan Hudson SP White Sox- As mentioned the White Sox could soon fall out of the race and Hudson would likely replace a Freddy Garcia.

3.91 ERA 1.21 WHIP 10.86 K/9

Jeremy Hellickson SP Rays- Should Wade Davis struggles continue or Niemann's luck reverse Hellickson could join the rotation and stick.

2.42 ERA 1.11 WHIP 9.26 K/9

Aroldis Chapman SP Reds- The most hyped of the Reds young pitchers Chapman has been dominate at times but BB have been a issue.

4.22 ERA 1.54WHIP 10.56 K/9 5.43 BB/9

Travis Wood SP Reds- The better track record between the two. Could be traded if the Reds continue to be competitive.

3.56ERA 1.08WHIP 8.75K/9

Carlos Torres SP White Sox- Should Hudson not work out Torres could be another option.

3.33 ERA 1.21 WHIP 8.61 K/9

Anthony Slama RP Twins- Jon Rauch is anything but a lights out closer. He has been effective thus far but nothing in his track record suggest Twins fans shouldn't be worried. The Twins would likely make a move but Slama could be a internal option to close.

1.64 ERA .92WHIP 10.33 K/9 14SV

Pacific Coast League

Alex Gordon OF Royals- Have you forgotten about him? Gordon has been on a tear since his demotion. Gordon's callup could happen at anytime. The Royals want him to be their face of the future.

.366 10HR 1.148OPS

Chris Davis 1B Rangers- Another player who was demoted earlier in the year. Davis will likely be included with any moves the Rangers make to acquire additional help this season. Davis needs a full time oppurtunity in the pro's. Still swings and misses to much but he has little to prove at this level.

.333 6HR .900 OPS

Chris Carter 1B A's- Thought to be the A's best power hitting prospect Carter has left little doubt of his power potential. Lack of plate discipline is the only thing keeping him held back.

.249 15HR .856 OPS 70K in 63 Games

Mark Trumbo Angels 1B- The Angels have said that Napoli will likely play the majority of 1B in the abscence of Morales but another option could be Trumbo. Good power stroke this season at Triple A.

.281 15 .860

Brett Wallace Blue Jays 3B/1B- One of several young Jays bats which point toward a bright future for the Blue Birds. Wallace is to much of a liability at 3B to play everyday and Overbay has the 1B position locked up do to his contract. In the AL East patience isn't an option should Lind, Overbay or Bautista not get it done. Wallace will find a spot in the lineup.

.349 11HR .837

JP Arencibia Blue Jays C- With the 2010 season John Buck has had he could be in demand come the trading deadline which would open a spot for Arencibia.

.280 13 .878

Madison Bumgarner Giants P- Could be the first of these players called up given Wellmeyers trip to the DL. Didn't get the initial nod but the callup appears immenent. Bumgarner had a rough first start but has been in control since then. A low K/9 total is concerning however.

3.12 ERA 1.37WHIP 5.76 K/9

Michael Kirkman P Rangers- The Rangers seem to always be looking for a pitcher. If they are unable to acquire another arm they may decide to call up Kirkman who may not be their best arm in the minors but has the most experience.

3.11 ERA 1.41 WHIP 8.71 K/9
