64/60 Draft Recap Vol. 2
In this installment we are taking a look at the last five picks of the draft. The last five picks of a draft can be like grasping for straws at times but if you can hit it big with 1 or 2 of these guys it can make up for some early round disappointments. I have always contested that the drafting or failure to draft those late round steals seperate the good teams from the bad. I consider anyone drafted after the 19th Rd a steal so just because someone hit or missed with these following players doesn't mean they failed in the late rounds of the draft.
60 Players were drafted over the final 5 Rounds. 8 of these players either were demoted prior to the season or have yet to play due to injury. This list includes Madison Bumgarner, Mike Stanton, JP Howell, Chris Tillman, Edison Volquez, Jarrod Saltalamacchia (placed on the DL after one game then was demoted upon return), Jared Burton and Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg and Volquez have maintained their roster spots all season. If you include Alex Gordon and Scott Sizemore who were both demoted and Mike Gonzalez, who has spent most of the season on the DL, that leaves 49players who have either played their way on or off rosters. Of these 49 players 15 are still with their original teams while 12 have found another home within the league. If you also add in players such as Rick Porcello, Kosuke Fukudome, Edwin Jackson, Joel Pineiro and Brandon Lyon that means that 32 players or 65% have been worthy of roster spots thus far this season. Another example of the great stable of minds that are part of the 64/60 Family.
Team Breakdowns
Prestige Worldwide- 0/5 Players still on roster. Worldwide had a solid first part of the draft but the very late rounds were'nt as giving.
DV -1974. Rod Barajas +88, Scott Sizemore-Demoted, Scott Feldman -887, Madison Bumgarner-NA, Justin Masterson -1175.
BCFP- 2/5 Players still on the roster. The Factory has benifitted from both of his players while Santana has been good for the 41129ers.
DV +481. Kelly Johnson +198, Nick Swisher +218, Jason Frasor -86, Ervin Santana +151, Mike Stanton-NA.
LeMaestro's 41129ers- 0/5 Players still on roster. Did you actually expect the 41129ers to show patience?
DV +164. Alex Gordon-Demoted, Brandon Lyon -1, Mike Gonzalez-Injured, Octavio Dotel +104, Matt Gurrier +61
Argumentative 9irons- 1/5 still on roster. Another owner who didn't capture any of the sleepers during these late rounds.
DV -2479. Rick Porcello -802, Brad Lidge -97, Lastings Milledge -636, John Baker -872, Hedeki Matsui -72.
Hell and Damnation- 2/5 on roster. Besides the Howell injury the back end of the draft has been good to H&D thus far.
DV -243. Matt Capps +93, Adam LaRoche +135, JP Howell-Injured, Jeremy Hermida -579, Kosuke Fukudome +108.
Ohio River Carp- 1/5 on roster. Lindstrom has been the lone holdover but I am sure the Carp regret releasing Rauch.
DV- -918. Bronson Arroyo -547, JJ Putz -28, Lindstrom +49, Jon Rauch +99, Carlos Ruiz -492.
Barboursville Stars- 2/5 on roster. Take away Helton from this group and it was a really succesful series of picks.
DV -444. Mat Latos +182, Todd Helton -693, Casey Blake 55, Scott Podsednik +134, Miguel Tejada -122.
BC Dingers- 1/5 on roster. Usually a reliable late round owner the Dingers didn't have their best season. Lewis is the bright spot.
DV -1284. Edwin Jackson -745, Chris Tillman-NA, Colby Lewis 126, Kyle Blanks -737, Delmon Young 72.
Maccabi Hebrewers- 0/5 on roster. No productive performer to speak of and only Overbay has a everyday gig.
DV -871. Edison Volquez-Injured, Lyle Overbay -34, Jarred Saltalamachia-Injured/Demoted, L. Nix -715, Bastardo -122.
Hendo Colonels- 5/5 still on roster. The man has made like 5 moves all season. Most of the production has warranted the faith.
DV -661. Randy Wolf -661,, Colby Rasmus +180, Leo Nunez +208, Miguel Olivo +176, Ivan Rodriguez -84.
Tude Smackers- 0/5 still on roster. "Who Cares" is his new motto or it could be his auto reply on his office email, regardless it was this approach that was executed during those final 5 rounds.
DV -1446. Johnny Peralta -504, Garrett Jones +91, Dice K -509, Joel Pineiro -652, Ian Kennedy +128.
Rubber Duckies- 1/5 on roster. Though the man is a ghost at times he has appeared long enough to drop the tail end of the roster.
DV -1828. Aaron Harang -632, Stephen Strasburg-NA, Nick Masset -582, Jarred Burton-NA, Maicer Izturis -614
