64/60 Draft Recap Vol. 1

We here at the 64/60 love the draft and everything it involves. We love the prep work, we love the process and we love the drinking involved. So to keep the day alive throughout the season we here in the 64/60 Media Dept. love to recap the event. So since a third of the season has passed us by I thought it was a good time to review. Today's installment features the Top 10 selections from each team. I went with the Top 10 today because I feel that the foundation of your team is built amongst these rounds. Make no mistake you can overcome disappointments and injuries amongst these players but to be successful the majority of these players need to produce.

I compared the players draft position to their current Yahoo Ranking( I am not a huge fan of Yahoo's ranking system but it provided a easy measuring stick.) to provide some type of value, or lack there of, for each player. I also looked at the top 120 selections as a whole to see how many players have spent significant time on the DL as well as how many players have already changed squads in the young season. Five players amongst the 120 have yet to play a game or have seen minimal action. This list includes: Brandon Webb, Carlos Beltran, Brian Roberts, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Miguel Montero. 14 Players have had a stint or multiple stints on the DL already. This list includes: Andre Ethier, Jimmy Rollins, Cliff Lee, Curtis Granderson, Josh Beckett, Kendry Morales, Nelson Cruz, Asdrubal Cabrerra, Yunel Escobar, Ian Kinsler, Grady Sizemore, Rafael Furcal, Manny Ramirez, and Jair Jurrgens.(Please excuse me if I overlooked someone, the research interns are off this week.) In typical 64/60 fashion all players are available for the right price as 9 players in this group have already been dealt. The most shocking discovery was that 4 players from this group have already been dropped. Now 4 of 120 doesn't sound like much but considering that only two months ago your team was built around these players to have thrown them aside with 2/3 of the season left was a bit of a surprise.

When I broke it down by teams I assigned every player to their drafted team and I also included injured players but not those who have yet to play or appeared in a handful of games. I also included the teams draft value with the recap. The teams draft value was based on the positive or negative value of the player according to their draft spot. For example if a player was drafted 50 overall and is ranked 20 he has a +30 draft value. Here are the team by team results.

Prestige Worldwide- Had the highest Draft Value of any team with -210. Has thus far managed to avoid injuries, other than Beltran who began the season on the DL.

Pujols -45, Upton -56, Youklis +16, Cano +33, Ethier +43, D Lee -171, Jimenez +72, Ibanez -272, CarGo 70

Bear Creek FP Factory- A draft value of -1759 isn't how the Factory drew it up but like so many the Factory fell victim to those damn catchers.

Ramirez -60, Carl Crawford +10, Dan Haren -256, Matt Wieters -800, Nick Markakis -154, Cole Hamels -136, Matt Cain -65, Joakim Soria -46, Carlos Quentin -252

LeMaestros 41129ers- The second best DV in the league at -884. Hey the system rewards those who avoid the big disappointments.

Ryan Braun 0, Zach Greinke -200, Jason Bay -40, Justin Verlander -49, Russell Martin -218, Jason Bartlett -218, Jerred Weaver -3, A.J. Burnett -120.

Argumentative 9irons- Though his 965 isn't the best in the league no one has gotten better value than the 9irons. The 9irons have a league leading 6 players above their drafted spot.

Chase Utley -31, Roy Halladay 7, Jimmy Rollins(Injury) -842, Pablo Sandoval -251, Jon Lester 14, Justin Morneau 65, BJ Upton -67, Bobby Abreu +10, Billy Butler +43, Shin-Soo Choo +87.

Hell and Damnation- Perhaps her early season failures can be explained by the leagues lowers DV of -3830.

Joe Mauer -134, Troy Tulowitzki -29, CC Sabathia -169, Aaron Hill -862, Aramis Ramirez -963, Papelbon -78, Carlos Pena -192, Jake Peavy -849, Dan Uggla +78, Geovanny Soto -632.

Ohio River Carp- A DV of -1929 the injury duo of Berkman and Cliff Lee has been big contributors to that total.

ARod -72, Joey Votto +8, Carlos Lee -112, Jayson Werth +27, Zimmerman 53, Hanson -134, Johan Santana -64, Adam Jones -271, Alexi Ramirez -656, Lance Berkman -708.

Barboursville Stars- It must be a requirement for Michaels employees. The Stars have the second worst DV in the league behind Damnation. Much of the credit goes to Josh Beckett.

Fielder -148, Pedroia -66, Wainwright 24, Jeter -62, Granderson -801, Adam Lind -191, Josh Beckett -1402, Francisco Rodriguez -13, Adrian Beltre 43, Jason Kubel -778.

BC Dingers- Fourth best total in the league at 1420. Take away Sizemore and Martinez and the Dingers avoided any other -100+ player.

Kemp -11, Wright -49, V. Martinez -247, Sizemore -892, Ichiro -67, Morales 27, Gallardo -87, Dunn -72, Andrus 57, Weeks -79.

Maccabi Hebrewers- A DV of -2596 doesn't look pretty but take away McClouth -840, Adsdrubal Cabrerra -753 and Chone Figgins -855, the Hebrewers were pretty solid. 5 performers with a positive DV.

Miguel Cabrerra 1, Reyes -236, Figgins -855, Josh Johnson 22, Nelson Cruz +36, Kershaw -50, James Shields 15, McCutchen +64, McClouth -840.

Hendo Colonels- A DV of -2380. Wandy Rodriguez -888 and Yunel Escobar -1059 pretty much sums it up.

Howard -49, Teixiera -240, Carpenter -29, Wandy Rod -888, M. Young 19, Zobrist -32, Victorino 38, Broxton -56, Y Escobar -1059, Billingsly -84.

Tude Smackers- DV -2928. The Smackers did have the injury to Kinsler -733 but had to deal with Carlos Lee's struggles and Javier Vazquez implosions on a consistent basis.

Longoria +6, Kinsler -733, McCann -269, Reynolds +14, Mariano Rivera -74, Josh Hamilton 6, Carlos Lee -800, Javier Vazquez -860, Rafael Furcal -257, Heath Bell +39.

Rubber Duckies-DV of 1133 ranks 4th in the league while the Duckies are firmly in 12th. Once again the systems integrity is in doubt.

Tim Lincecum -13, Matt Holliday -173, Brandon Phillips -101, Adrian Gonzalez -185, Chipper -302, S. Drew -84, Manny -219, Jay Bruce -56.
