Fantasy Fundamentals From The Factory: Waiver Wire Roundup "Get While the Getting Is Good."

As a Fantasy Owner you are constantly looking for ways to improve your team. The easiest way to improve your team is simply replacing a struggling player with someone from the Free Agent/Waiver pool. When assessing these players what do you look at? Do you follow the Owned % to see how much faith other owners are putting into players? Do you simply go be the best players year to date? Or do you focus on a area of need and do your best to fill it? All of these are suitable methods I suppose but when it comes to selecting offensive help may I suggest going after the hot hand. Often times players find themselves in the midst of a hot streak and propel themselves into the upper tier of Fantasy Production. This streak may last only a week or it could be as long as a month. I always remember Juan Gutierrez who was a MI for the Indians and other teams several years ago. Each April he seemed to be a Top 10 Fantasy Player but once the calender turned May he became irrelevant. If you can get these players while the getting is good you can obtain a elite fantasy performer for the price of a Free Agent. This all sounds rather easy but identifying who will continue on the Hot Streak is anyone's guess but I typically will filter the production of players over the last week and take a chance. If they don't produce drop them and try again. These players are all withing the Top 50 players accoding to the Yahoo Settings of the 64/60 and all are owned in less than 50% of Yahoo leagues.

Rank Player Owned % Hit/AB HR Runs RBI SB AVG OPS

4. John Buck 24% 9/21 3/7/6/0/429/1.381 * In a two C league he may be worth owning while Hot.

19. Jonny Gomes 3% 10/23 1/4/7/1/435/1.087. In the abscence of Dickerson as long as Gomes is hot he will get more of the platoon than Nix.
20. Angel Pagan 4% 10/26 1/5/4/2/.385/1.006. Is a decent producer across the board and is the everyday guy until Beltran returns.

25. Troy Glaus 7% 11/28 2/3/8/0/.393/1.095. Looks to be getting in the groove after a terrible start.

32. Fred Lewis 5% 14/33 1/3/7/0/.424/1.091. With Encarnacion out and Bautista at 3B Lewis is the everyday guy in Left. Decent SB option.

34. Aaron Rowand 20% 7/27 2/5/8/0/.259/.903. Not a big Rowand fan from a fantasy perspective but does have some power and bats in the middle of the lineup albeit the Giants.

36. JD Drew 45% 8/19 0/7/3/1/.421/.994. Better fantasy performer than a player.

41. Rod Barajas 43% 6/16 2/4/5/0/.375/1.250. See John Buck.

48. David Murphy 5% 10/27 1/5/5/0/.370/1.000. Will lose playing time when Cruz returns.
