Ok, so the madness has gotten hold of us. The infection is spreading, and fast...Let's take a look at some of the sticking points so far of this March's edition of the greatest weekend in sports...
First of all, Don't brag and act like you are some numbers and college basketball genius...Everybody picked the Murray State upset of Dawson's Creek...And, don't go tooting your horn if you got Cornell over Temple in your bracket either. Kentucky fans probably all picked the Big Red due to Mark Khoury being there...So, two upsets that everybody more than likely picked is nothing to hang your armchair powers of perception on.
However, I don't think anybody could have seen the Bobcats from Athens beating Georgetown. That was a total pearl harbour, and may have wrecked many brackets. However, hopefully you did not buy into the Big East being DOMINATING and have Georgetown too far into the festival. I will root for Ohio...There is a HUGE difference in rooting for Ohio and Ohio State...Huge..
The Selection Commitee favorite Tubby Smith and his Golden Golphers bowed out today... I am not going to drudge up the Tubby debate here, as I don't care to know everybody's opinion for the uptenth time... The man can coach, and like him or not, he get's his teams to the dance. However, this may not be enough for the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, as I am hearing chatter that a return to the SEC is in Tubby's future. Apparently, the vacant job at Auburn could be as good as his in the coming weeks, but don't take your eye off of the Oregon job either..Right now, it's a toss up..
Nova almost going the way of the dodo was entertaining. Robert Morris came out and gave all the Cats from Philly wanted, and then some. An OT thriller on the first day kind of set the pace for the rest of the tournament... BYU's status as a 3-point shooting machine was solidified with it's net blazing performance against Florida...Northern Iowa took down UNLV with yet another down to the wire 3 point shot game...Kansas had an easy time as did the Moutaineers...but shit, Eric Bledsoe's 8, count em' 8, Threes and plenty of garbage time for the bench and those Young Knock-out Kids did just that, knocked their opponent out in the opening minutes of the game, the rest was just a practice. Some of the lesser seeds who won yesterday really can't be considered 'upsets'. I think that it just goes to show that the slection committee sometimes is more miss than hit with seedings and selections...BUT, over all, they more often than not get it right.
Every crusty old white man in the country had to be saddened a little when Luke Harangody and the Irish went down to Old Dominion. Lucky Luke was hardly even a factor, matter of fact, he barely did more than have a uniform on. Harangody, for all his praise, has completely sucked in post season play. Those Archie Bunker types now only have Ivy League power Cornell and Duke left to root for. I would say BYU, but can you really trust mormons??
I hate to say, but My final four picks are the same as Dicky V and Mark Schilabach of ESPN...Heavy drinking will ensue for sure...
I think the Cats from the land of Syrup could be in the right position for pulling off the biggest upset of all against Syracuse, which oddly enough, looks alot like syrup...
And yes, I am going to be rooting for UC Santa Barbara to topple the giant(in their own minds) Fucknuts of Ohio State...
And, the all-world, best player in the NBA, yep, RAJON RONDO has been very vocal in his support of UK...And it appears as if the 'vaunted' Big East has turned out to be the Big LEAST...
Jeff Hall has ruined the dream of Rhonda and Dave Salisbury. The current Glasgow Head Coach released a statement that said he was very happy in his current coaching positiion and had no plans to take the BC job. But, how many times have we seen coaches make these statements only to do just the opposite of what they are saying?
Randy Ward, the coach that took Greenup County to Hooters, is still the only notable candidate who has applied for the position. His replacement at Greenup, former Rose HIll Coach Tim Fraley has been fired by Greenup, which is a move to avoid sanctions from the KHSAA, similiar to ones that were handed down to Rose HIll due to Fraley's coaching and recruiting practices. Speaking of Rose HIll, Another former player is making headlines in Ohio, as Chesapeake will do battle with Rival Ironton in the district III finals in Athens. I work with one of Ironton's players mother. Nothing more to that..it just seemed kind of relevant.
Dakotah Euton and Chad Jacskon are leading Scott County to a good run in the Sweet 16, which saw East Carter bow out in the first round. However, Lil' Shelby Valley has advanced to the 2nd round and is still plugging along. Rowan's girls team made it all the way to the championship round, only to be sent back to Morehead with the blue ribbon, not the purple that they had hoped for....impressive none the less...
