Just some quick hitters from the weekend past and the week ahead.
*Kentucky Wildcats continue on towards the ultimate goal of #8 with a matchup Thursday VS. Cornell. The media will build this up to be a game that all UK fans should fear, but I tend to agree with Gilbert on this one.......BLOWOUT!
*Wrestlemania 26 will be next weekend and all signs are pointing to this being Shawn Michaels final wrestling match. He faces the equally legendary, but equally old,Undertaker. In a match that pits The Undertakers current Wrestlemania unbeaten streak VS. Michael's career.
I haven't followed wrestling in many years, but Michaels was and is truly one of the greats of the business.
*For all you Bobby Jenks owners out there, apparently he will be on what is being called a "very short leash" this year in regards to his ownership of the closer role in Chicago. Jenks hasn't pitched much in Spring, but has been bad when he has. On the heels of a rough season last year, this doesn't come as news to me, but it might to Joshua.
*An article I read today pointed out the early success that Corey Hart, of Milwaukee Brewers fame is having this Spring. It quickly went on to add that Spring stats are for chumps.......While Spring stats are often misleading, I firmly believe that Hart is in for a big year, and at the least, a return to his numbers of 07 and 08.
*As some of you know, Burt and I have just returned from our inagural trip to the NFBC Live Draft in St. Louis(roughly). While we chose not to participate in the main event(this year) we see this as a good chance to get our feet wet and get a feel for the setup and its participants.
Admittedly, I expected a flock of middle-aged 400lbers' and yuppie douchebags, but was pleasantly suprised to meet alot of nice people who were just as overly into this shit as we are.
Good times were had, and I imagine this will become a yearly trek for the beaked one and I.
*KSR has been mentioning lately that rumours and Cal's own words are hinting towards a possible entry into the draft by Kentucky FR Center, Daniel Orton.
While I do believe that he could only benefit from coming back for atleast another year, people tend to forget that before Orton got hurt in HS. The big kid from Oklahoma City was at one time considered a top 5 player in the country. And Orton, has been playing like it in recent weeks. Orton has recently looked much more dominant than at any point this season, even though he continues to play behind future lottery pick, Demarcus Cousins.
I don't see Orton turning pro this year, and alot of this hype just comes from the general dominance that Kentucky as a whole has shown in the last couple weeks. But, understand that Orton will be a force in the NBA when he does decide that the timing is right.
*Chris Young (the 8ft pitcher in Cali) still sits on the 64/60 Waiver Wire. True, Young had a horrbile year in 2009 with a 5+ ERA and WHIP over 1.50, but taking a 100mph baseball to the face can do that to a man.
This guy is a dominant presence on the mound who can throw alot of K's and keep a relatively low ERA(especially with the help of PetCo). Add in that he's working on a new pitch in Spring training that could bolster his arsenal and I think your looking at 10-15 W's/ 3.50-3.80ERA/ 8+K/9.
*Huntington, West Virginia is the most unhealthy city in the United States.......Very humourous or Very sad....not sure wich.
*Duke blows.......Honestly, how do these guys get so much respect from the media? TWO very simple reasons.....1. It seems everyone in the media has a boner for Coach K. 2. A majority of the team is pigment challenged.
It cannot be publicly admitted, but the regularity of goofy white guys playing for Duke has made it a media darling. I really don't know that there is any other way to explain it.
*Discovery Channel has started running its new documentary, Life. Very similar to the Planet Earth series, and just as good. While, Oprah's omniscient narration is somewhat irksome, the show is worth checking out if anyone is interested in that type of thing.
*Tiger Woods is really coming off a a major cockbite in the media. He needs to quit pandering to the medias demands for an apology and explanation. Gilbert, touched on it and I agree......This dude is a kajillionaire and is famous......Who is honestly suprised that he's fucking every skank that crosses his path?
*Brad Childress-"FARVE CAN TAKE AS LONG AS HE WANTS"(Vikings head coach, in response to how long Bret Favre has to make a decision about returning...........No shit....... Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels doesn't inspire confidence in anyone.
*Tom Izzo is one hell of a coach. I wouldn't take anyone over Calipari right now, but this guy has proven himself to be a big game winner year in and year out.
My prediction.....While everyone stains there pants talking about the current Cinderella that toppled mighty Kansas and its choke artist coach. I sit back and wait for the Spartans of Michigan State to break alot of hearts when they play Northern Iowa this Friday night without the help of star player, Kalin Lucas.
*Kentucky over Cornell
Kentucky over WVU
WVU over Washington
Syracuse over Butler
Syracuse over Kansas St.
Kansas St over Xavier
St. Marys over Baylor
St. Marys over Purdue
Purdue over Duke
Tenn. over Ohio St.
Tennessee over Mich St.
