For those of you who have come to love the "Rubbin One Off" post it pains me to tell you that it will no longer appear weekly on the blog. I have decided that a controversial picture of me may one day come back to destroy the 64/60 name. The 64/60 will one day become mainstream and this is simply a step that must be taken for the growth process to begin. I do want to assure everyone that the same wisdom and knowledge that made the Rubbin post a must view each week will be found in the Coleman's Commentary post. Thanks for your continued support and dedication.
Brett Farve returned to the NFL for two reasons first was to stick it to the Packers and second was to contend for a Championship. With two victories over the Packers this year mission one was accomplished. However the 2009 season will end without another title for number 4. For those knee jerk reactors out there this season will be considered a disappointment. Another NFC Championship comes down to the wire and in both cases a Brett Favre Int ultimately seals his fate. For those big picture people this season was a smashing success. Favre may have had his best season ever at age 40. It was certainly his most effecient season throwing a career low 9 int's on the season. It was thought that the Vikings would be a smashmouth team and Farve would simply give them the down field threat. This was not the case. Peterson was a non factor after the first half of the season and Farve took this team on his back and lead them to a 13 win season and a NFC Championship appearance.
The NFC Championship didn't go the way the Vikings and Farve had planned. I believe the Vikings had 8 turnovers, including two Farve interceptions, yet lost the game by a FG in overtime. Farve threw for 300+ yards and had a TD sandwiched in between the 2 INT's. Though both INT's were costly the INT near the end of regulation is the one that Farve, Viking Fans, and Farve haters will anguish over or celebrate until camp opens next season. With the game tied at 28 and a realistic oppurtunity for a GW FG Farve throws across his body on the run into the middle of the field and right into the hands of a Saints defender ending the potential GW drive and ultimately ending the season for the Vikings. It was a repeat of the 2007 season for Farve. Battered and bruised the legend walks off the field in defeat and his future in doubt.
I didn't have to be this way. At the 1 minute mark the Vikings were driving and had victory in it's grasp despite the TO epedemic but the man known as, Chili took over. With the clock moving the Vikings found themselves around the 35 yard line and within Ryan Longwell's distance. Though anything above 40 yards is no longer a given for Longwell he had a Season long of 56 yards. After a run on 1st and 2nd down it appeared that the Vikings were content on running down the clock and attempting the game winner at the 3 second mark or so but after the second run netted nothing the Vikings took a timeout at the 19 second mark I presume to get more yardage. However if you are weary of the distance why run two straight plays up the gut when you have a minute remaining? Once the offense returned to the field after the timeout they had 12 men in the huddle pushing the FG back another 5 yards. With the FG attempt pushed back to the 50+ yard range it forced Farve to attempt to make a play to gain some yardage and the result was the INT. The ball should have never been thrown a 55 yard attempt is better than no attempt at all. But to place all the blame on Farve is completely undeserved. The lack of direction and organization in that final minute robbed the Vikings of a chance at victory not the poor throw by Farve.
I used to be a Farve guy. He always had that schoolboy enthusiasim on the field and always looked to be having fun. He seemed to be down to earth and for christ sakes the man wears Wranglers. The Frave charm started to wear on me after the second season of holding the Packers hostage by not stating his intentions for the upcoming season and his bitterness after the Packers selecting Rodgers in the first round of the 05 draft. Although the indecision from year to year to return or retire has hurt his overall image Farve will still be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Farve hasn't decided yet to return for the 2010 campaign but if 09 is indeed his last hurrah as time passes by the memories of Farve in his youth running around the Superdome with helmet in hand will replace those moments from last week.

I really liked your point that Favre shouldn't have thrown the interception at the end of the game. Nice work.
Had he completed the pass, would you still say "The ball should have never been thrown?" No, you would say the exact opposite.

Also, I am failing to see your main point.
Are you saying that you don't like Favre anymore or that if he quits now, after taking his team to the NFC Championship, you will still have fond memories of him or...?
