The excitement vanished this week in the 64/60. Only one contest was decided by less than 10 pts. While all of the games where over on Sunday. This was the first week all season that produced these type of outcomes. The playoff picture continues to look muddled and I have a sneaking suspicion that it is going to stay that way for the next 3 weeks. Five teams have identical 6-5 records and the Point totals of these teams have a difference of 13pts from 1 to 5. In the upcoming weeks we will see how the games play out and come the final week we may change the schedule to matchup playoff contenders to determine who is in and who is out. This would allow the games to be determined Head to Head rather than by total points.
As for the action on the field this week. Two more teams where eliminated from the playoff picture. Losses by Burt's Bitches, excuse me I mean, the Beaker Breaker and Hell and Damnation left both teams essentially 3 games under .500 and both have 8 teams ahead of them for 4 spots. The Breakers just didn't get the breaks this year as they have scored plenty of points but those haven't resulted in W's. Once again this is the result of Fantasy Karma that will forever follow Mr. Ward. He better enjoy his Baseball Trophy because he is doomed from now on. The women of Hell and Damnation didn't exactly embrace the football like they did Baseball. Ashley gave a good effort and drafted a team but her managerial approach was make sure I'm starting a full lineup. No matchup breakdowns or Waiver Wire Wonders for these Hell Cats. Like other owners in this league Ashley is counting down the days until Spring Training. In honor of the other two eliminated soles both fittingly added another L on the season with the Stars still holding claim to the 12th spot in the Standings. If the schedule is changed perhaps these two lightweights will have a final matchup to determine the worst team in the league.
Now on to the winners of the league and teams that have reasonable hopes for the playoffs. The BC Fightin Amish suffered only their second loss of the season and one that I'm sure will be blamed on his vacation. The Amish got smacked around by Bo's Bad Asses 80-66. The win has the Asses tied for second and another win should lock up a playoff spot. The other second place team is the FV Slobber Knockers lead by the 9 year old Oracle(a shout out to the League which comes on FX Thursdays at 10:30 Please Check it Out Very Funny) of the 64/60 the Knockers broke the Beaker 83-70. As for the other contenders who all are in a deadlock. The Factory laid it to the Colonels 81-59. With the loss of Ronnie Brown the Colonels could be fading fast they have lost 3 of 4 and they are in desperate need of Adrian Peterson to play like the Number 1 overall pick down the stretch. They have been hurt by poor WR play and there once firm grip on a playoff spot is all but gone. Both HFLers continue to win. After slow starts by both they have gone a combined 9-1 over their last 10 games and look to be forces. Both teams are built the same way. Both feature a top QB two really good WR's and one stud RB the rest of the squad is patched together but the talent at the top is good enough to win them plenty of games. Finally the Bounty Hunters lead by Bill Fenney. Bill is always in the playoff hunt regardless of the sport you are playing. During his time in the 64/60 he hasn't ever been the leader in the clubhouse but I can't recall a season or an extended period of time when the Bounty Hunters or Ohio River Carp's name wasn't in the playoff discussion. It appears this season will be no different.
Next weeks slate of games should provide some movement in the standings. The Factory face off against the Amish. While other playoff contenders square off head to head with the Hendo Colonels facing bernie leroy and the Urinators battle Bo's Bad Asses. The Knockers and Hunters need to take advantage of the schedule and push around on the Stars and 9irons.
