Cock Blocked: Kentucky slays Frankenstien, cuckles the Gamecocks at Rupp

Things got offensive tonight in Rupp.

Uncle Julius had South Carolina screaming may day, as tonight was Mays' day. The man who is just about two weeks shy of qualifying for the Senior PGA Tour, paced 4 other Cats in double-digit scoring tonight with his 15,(4-5 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc, and going 3-3 from the free throw line) and put the Cats in the minivan and drove them to what seemed like a PTA sponsored ice cream social (like a good uncle would), as the Cats continue to show that they just might be built for March after all.

The Cats shot a robust 61% from the field tonight, and put together their most impressive, and complete showing of the season, as they choked the chickens from Columbia 77-55.

Nerlens was somewhat of a cock blocker tonight, like a dude in Affliction weaseling in on your score at Applebee's, swatting away 5 South Carolina shots, and going double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Ryan Harrow played impressively, and added 12 points (on a perfect night of 6-6 on his shot attempts), however he still needs to take care of the ball better. Needs to get a little tougher. As does Archie Goodwin, but it might be time to get off the kid's back. Kentucky fans won't do it, but it may be time none the less. Archie had 13 points.

And while Ol' Frankenstein was popping head veins and doing what he does on the sidelines, which is mostly spew his saliva everywhere when he speaks, out own Stein was doing work. Making hustle plays, and adding 13 points and 6 rebounds becoming Willie Cauley-Frankenstein.

The Cats shot a blazing 68% in the first half, after starting a little sluggish, and finished the first half on a run of 28-6.

Free-throws still keep being a point of emphasis and a sore spot in the Cats box scores. Tonight, they went 18-28 from the gimme' line. And, as mentioned, we need to take better care of the ball.  We committed 17 turnovers tonight, compared to only 7 from South Carolina.

That kind of disparity in turnover ratios, when compared to the score and shooting percentages (SC shot a hide your face in the pillow 29%), gives you an indication that by no means is South Carolina a good team. Still, the Cats looked good and the opposition on the evening should not diminish that fact, and that Kentucky put together the kind of game they should against a team like the fake USC.

Poythress didn't light up the score box in the stat sheet tonight (only attempting 5 shots from the field, perfect 3-3 from the line though), but he did pull down 9 rebounds, and once more on the season, we actually out-rebounded our opponents by a margin of 42-25.

Poythress, Archie and Willie all played with a certain degree of toughness, not quite as tough as they need, or could be, but they did show some flashes of an inner-Hulk-a-maniac ready to rear it's head. And, when Archie isn't doing ill-advised things, door lord it's a thing of beauty watching that kid cut and slash into the lane.

Nerlens Noel's 5 blocks only furthers his place as the nation's leading shot-blocker, averaging just under 5 a game. He is also the SEC's leading rebounder. It also should close any door of doubt, that he isn't a marquee name in college basketball this season.

At one point in the first half, SC actually led by a point, until the Kentucky onslaught began. In the second half, the game roosters would not sniff anything closed than a 15 point deficit.

Obligatory South Carolina key performer mention: Freshman Micheal Carrera, who had 18 points and 6 rebounds, and may or may not have spit in the face of people, who do not want to be cool.

Starting to come together, Pepper.

Once again, Cats 77- Nature's Alarm Clock 55

i think they are starting to hit a stride. 18 of 28 from the line, might be the best they can do tho.
