Just to keep it local: AIT Recap(very un-thorough) and a conspiracy theory

What kind of people would we be if we didn't give you the rundown on the AIT?
People with some sort of life, more than likely, but sense we aren't those people, here we go:

Daulton Peters, West Jessamine
Night two of the 58th annual event would see Boyd County stay on the losing end of things. The school that Jarrod Polson made famous,(and a guy by the name of Jody Hamilton got to be the target of some venom that used to reside in these parts) West Jessamine handed The County their second loss in the AIT, by the tune of 79-63. Trying to not be long winded in this with so many stats and names, but we would be remiss if we didn't mention the Colts' Daulton Peters, who went a little warm in the second half scoring 19. He finished with a staggering 45 point night. West had just come off a loss on night one was well, when Kyle Skaggs and Lance Evans(The former BC and current Russell QB) and company from Russell handed them a 57-54 defeat.

NewCath (by the way that's short for Newport Catholic, which is short for Newport Central Catholic), who narrowly escaped BC on night one, did the same to the aforementioned Red Devils on night two, taking home a 67-61 win, improving their bus ride down from Greater Cincinnati to 2-0, and also keeping them perfect on the season up to that point.

And, the host team put away South Laurel, 69-51. Ashland had beaten up on Sheldon Clark rather convincingly on night one 71-58. Ashland was rolling as they were finally getting the chance to play on their own hardwood at Anderson Gymnasium, and were not disappointing the 'Maroon Mafia'.

So here comes the finale: Night Three.

Boyd's hard-luck finally turned around and beat this year's AIT Whippin' Boy, Sheldon Clark, soundly 63-46.

The Colonels of Henderson County also made their presence known on night three, beating West Jessamine narrowly 56-52. That's all of the AIT Hendo would see, having only played in 2 games in the event, winning both. They won on night two beating, you guessed it, Sheldon Clark 49-38.(maybe it would be more appropriate if we called them them the AIT Beatinest Boy? Jesse Stuart reference, kids.)

It was indeed a tough trip up 23 from Inez for the Cardinals.

Russell manage to handle South Laurel by the score of 74-59, ending their run in the AIT with a 2-1 record.

Then, Ashland Blazer attempted to bring home their own trophy for only the 14th time in AIT history as they went up against the other undefeated tournament team, NewCath in the finals.
Unfortunately for the Tomcats, they were beaten like they were stray cats and Newport was the broom. 80-61 was the final in the grand finale of the event and NewCath went perfect in the tournament, and remained perfect on the season.

It was a bittersweet run for Ashland. They played well in front of the hometown fans, but came up just shy of the goal.

Maybe the 59th AIT will be their year to keep the trophy in their case.

The Rocky Adkins Athletic Center
Oh, and one other thing. We all have heard the grandeur that is the new BCHS. Well, I want to bring up the new gymnasium that is on campus. It is an absolute jewel of a gym, recently named Rocky Adkins Athletic Center, but the school apparently has said that they are not going to use it for home games...at all. With a capacity of 1800, more than Anderson mind you, it is more than adequate to handle any crowd that may attend a BC home game. To not use it, is just mind blowingly insane.

The reasoning: They claim that they are not going to move any games, boys nor girls, to the finally built on-campus gym that they have clamored for for so long, due to the recent additions made to the current gym, the BCMS gymnasium in Summit, with it's vast seating capacity. Those include a reported $7000 overhaul to the locker rooms for the home teams.

Wiggins and company in Summit.
The gym will not see a capacity crowd for the foreseeable future again, if it ever does is not likely either. The closest that has happened was when thousands flocked to see Huntington Prep and Andrew Wiggins last month as part of the John W. Clark Roundball Classic. Now, this is where I see maybe we haven't been told the complete truth.

Huntington Prep is probably growing tired of playing it's home games in other area teams gyms( which makes me even more saddened that Veteran's Memorial is gone). They would probably love to have a place to call home. With the talent they bring into their program, packed crowds are going to be the norm to see the latest D1 prospects from all over America(and beyond).

I think there is the truth. I foresee Huntington Prep taking over payments, if you will, on the Gym out at BCMS. The County will move into their new digs, which they said they would not, and The Express will have a place to call home. Of course, it's only because it would be a financial success for the school system to do so. Recoup some of that over-budgeted spending that has taken place to build the Taj Mahal of Secondary Education.

Now, it may take a season or two before this happens, but I have a feeling this is the direction to look. I had been hearing for quite some time, that the school was considering treating the venue as a sort of civic center, and lease and rent it out to special events and concerts, things of that nature.

Of course, in our area, you hear things like this that are way off. I may have just added to the infinite list of things that are to be filed away in the 'BS' drawer.

But, hey, that's what I heard.
