Maybe it's just the overly-spiked eggnog and PBR talking, but we miss Todd Del Ray.
It's been quite a while since we heard from our own Todd Del Ray. You may remember TDR as the man behind the Todd 25. It's been so long since we had heard from Todd, we don't even remember that part of his life, which was obviously the biggest accomplishment of said life, the life of Todd.
While all we can do is cut through the endless amount of rumors and a trail that runs cold on ol' Del Ray, and just envision what we think he is doing: Sleeping one off. Todd once walked from 13th in Ashland all the way to Rusty's out in Rush. When asked why he would entertain, and carry-out, such an undertaking, his reply was simple, yet complex in it's simplicity. It was beautiful. It was, in his words, "sometimes you just have to figure stuff out."
In what seems like almost as long as it's been since we could actually confirm Todd's existence as a warm body, Kentucky has been absent from the AP Top 25.
4 weeks now is the tally on how long it has been. Dropped out after the loss to Baylor in Rupp, and haven't as much as sniffed the listing again.
After the much bally-hooed, monumental, and historical drop, the Cats have played better and have improved from where they were. Kentucky was dropped completely out of the Top 25 after suffering the loss to Baylor, it's 3rd on the season, Calipari's first at Rupp since coming to Lexington, and spending the previous weeks as a Top 10 team. Now, Kentucky probably should not have been in the Top 5 as early as they were, but it's Kentucky, so it goes with the territory.
But, it being Kentucky is also the reason many of the voters were so horny to disrespect the Cats in the single largest fall from the National Rankings in it's history.
Simply put, it was a bit irrational to drop the Cats as far as they did on their parts. However it is even more irrational to have not included the Cats in the polls since the drop. It should be noted, that in the USA Today/Coaches Poll, Kentucky has remained in that Top 25 for the duration of the season.
Of the 3 loses the Commonwealth's team has suffered, 2 of the teams have remained in the AP polls every week after defeating the Cats: Duke currently #1 and Notre Dame currently #21, respectively. Duke was #9 when they beat the then #3 Cats in Atlanta, and Notre Dame entered the Top 25 for the first time after they defeated the #8 Cats in South Bend. Baylor was unranked when they came into Lexington, and they remain unranked currently.
According to the Power Rankings, Kentucky sits at #23, and is not noted as to having any quality wins, yet it has racked up the ultra-ironic quality loses to the amount of 2, to Duke and The Irish.
So, it's not doom and gloom, just right now we are a strong 5 seed in March.
So as the 29th and a date with Louisville looms, The Nation's Best Rivalry will see the Cardinals ranked in the Top 5 and Kentucky unranked for the FIRST time since the rivalry resumed play in 1983.
