So, Does anybody know where Lebron is going to play? Oh, he already announced it? Miami? I wish somebody would have told me. In all seriousness though, Lebron's 90 minutes special just to announce where he was going to go in the free agent pool was sickening. I salute Dan Gilbert for his rant and verbal assault on Lebron and his decision to leave Cleveland, but I can't blame him, I mean, Have you ever been to Cleveland? Dan Gilbert's tantrum may have been little more than a hurt feeling taking my ball and leaving single child hissy fit, but it was awesome.
Spain. World Cup. Champion. A goal in extra time to beat the Dutch. Great TV. Now that the Cup is over and everyone with up to date vaccinations are leaving the dark continent, will Soccer have staying power here in the States? We have been through this before, The World Cup Craze of 199...whenever when it was in the States, When our Women won it all, and when Spice Girl Beckham came to play in our modest league, and minor sparks like the Freddy Adu sensationalism and when we beat Mexico in Mexico...but it's the same song and dance.. We are facinated by the sport, it grips us and we are enthralled with it...for all of 2-3 weeks, then we return to loving sports we bastardized... History repeats with this go round as well. The climate in the country for Futbol? I'd say it is room temperature at the moment, but it will return to luke warm any day now. Shame.
The only reason I am making mention of this is due to the fact that it was fn to say. The Boyd County National Nationals(See how fun that was?) were the kings of the BCNLL Minor League. For those wondering, Chris Lee sat this season out. In all seriousness, Mr. Catlettsburg Baseball himself, a student of Vonderheide-ism, myself, made mention of BCNLL and Not the Burg...Reason being, I have no idea what has happened to the former crown jewel of area little leagues, and I think the death march will begin soon for the Sandy City institution.
I hate to bring it up, but more Lebron/Miami stuff... Miami has become the Kentucky of the NBA, meaning that they are getting all the prized players, and Like Kentucky, people are crying about it. Mark Cuban, owner of the able to keep Dirk Mavs, suggested recently that the Miami Heat should be investigated...Why?
Speaking of the Cats, Enes Kanter is projected as next year's #1 overall pick. Calipari apparently ruffled some old Blue Feathers with his "Greatest day in the history of the program" statement at the draft in regards to Kentucky( and by kentucky I mean Cal's) Influnece on the draft with 5 first rounders. One of the old guard who did not like it was Dan Issel. Dumberst thing he has ever heard. I see where he is coming from, but today, with the type of Players Cal is and will get, dollar signs and early exits from Biology with adjoining lab credit hours means more to these types than Banners and Big gaudy trophies. Let's face it, the days of Jeff Shepherd, or a kid from Maysville or any other locale in the Bluegrass , coming here because it's Kentucky, because we have 7, because we have Rupp, The Unforgetables, The Runts, Untouchables, The Sky Walker, King Rex, Monster Mash, Kyle Macy, The Goose are over... for the time being anyways.. Draft Position, less time on Campus, and potential net worth mean more to the breed of players we are bringing.
More Kentucky... THe Dinner Bell rang for the final time. Melvin Turpin passed away over the weekend. The former UK Stand out and 1/2 of the dominating Twin Towers of early 80's lore, decided life was just too much to take any longer, and died as the result of taking his own life, the cause was a self inflicted gunshot. Turpin had been in poor health, had a wife with a heart condition, and well, At one time a Hero to the Commonwealth, #6 NBA Draft Pick and pretty wealthy man, to bouncing around different jobs in the Lexington Metro area, as so many former Cats do, from Car Salesman to his most recent job as a Wackenhut Security Officer. That is a hard fall to take, and compound that with very bad diabetites, and you have the end result. Im not gonna remember Mel this way, I am gonna remember him as the larger than life hero who used to hang on my wall beside countless other Cats beside a nerf hoop.
The Voice of God has been silenced. No, Tom Cruise and his scientologist rebelion did not win a Holy War. Bob Sheppherd, the long-time PA announcer for the Yankees past away. He was 99 years old and died at his Long Island home.
The ALL-STAR break is coming not a moment too soon for the Redlegs. After a blistering offensive run, things went cold quickly as soon as the got the CIty of Brotherly Love. Philladelphia showed no love to the Nati's offense as the Reds have went 20 innings in a row without lighting a bulb on the board. The Reds even took a perfect game past regualtion and lost 1-0 in 11. Not all was lost on this trip though. The grass roots movement to get the BEST first basemen in the bigs, statisticaly speaking, in the All-Star game worked and Joey Votto is gonna get a nice bonus. I am glad the fans spoke in volumes and got Joey on the roster, it was a huge oversight and gaff on behalf of MLB and Charlie Manuel the first go round, and well, the fans.
One more Lebron note then I am closing the book on it... Jesse Jackson says that Cleveland Management ( by Cleveland Management he means white people) see James as nothing more than a 'runaway slave'. Rev. Jackson, give it a fucking rest please...
Football is getting closer by the day, before you know it, the leaves will turn and fall and Notre Dame will start losing again. Ahhhh... The traditions of fall....
Thanks to Jesse Ward, I dont think the Houston's Astros will have any trouble with brand recognition.
Dear Jesus, Please keep Ric Flair safe..... Dear Ric, for the love of God, go home..stay there...play bridge...dont wrestle... Nobody is going to be wooohing after you die on tv...

*Basketball is entertainment...And judging from the ratings for the 1 hour Lebron-Apalooza...Mission accomplished. Didn't feel like there was anything wrong with it, as it was more exciting than most NBA games.

*As far as him leaving Cleveland....I'd wager that if you gave anyone in the jewel city of the midwest a 100 million dollars plus, on Monday....by Tuesday they would have a new mailing address.

*For anyone not familiar with the Cleveland Tourism video....

*Rev. Jackson does indeed need to have a huge cock super glued to his tonsils.

*What kind of world are we living in where Ric Flair loses to Macho Man.....err....I mean....Jay Lethal?

Showboatin!!! That is what James and his others were doing this past week. Why don't we just choose our teammates in every sport and that will make every sport interesting on who will win the league. I can't believe the league allowed all this crap. This is why I don't watch the NBA.
