64/60 Trade Analysis Part 1

At the recognized midpoint of the season we have had 9 trades thus far in the 2010 64/60 baseball season. As expected these trades involve the same group of guys over and over. Very few owners in the 64/60 take the time and make the effort to iron out that blockbuster deal. As always each trade has different results, some work out well and make your team better, some can be disasterous moves that hurt the overall quality of your team, and some simply are able to make your team better as well as the other team you are trading. For the betterment of the league you would like to have more Win/Win trades throughout the season but as an owner you like nothing more to be on the winning end of a blockbuster deal. We here at the Factory have took the time to breakdown the numbers of each trade.

*All numbers are the production levels after the trade was completed.

3/20 Tude Smackers get Jason Bartlett and Justin Verlander for Evan Longoria and Brian Fuentes from the 41129ers. This could be the most one-sided trade of the season as Bartlett was below replacement level value while Verlander would be traded in the near future. For the 41129ers they get the best stretch of Longoria and Fuentes provided some back end game play for two months before being dropped.

Bartlett .224/2/29/29/3/.642 Dropped on 6/30

Verlander 1QS/5.53/1.08/8.46/26K

Longoria .326/9/32/31/5/1.007

Fuentes 6SV/4.97/1.18/10.66/15K

4/30 Tude Smackers get Joakim Soria from the BCFP for Justin Verlander. The Smackers decided to load up on top of the line closers and this move fit that strategy. As for myself I prefer the potential 200+ IP from Verlander over the 50+ from Soria. Both have the potential to be studs and for the most part both have been thus far.

Verlander- 10QS/3.29/1.11/8.62/84

Soria- 19SV/2.22/1.23/9.99/27

5/7 Pablo Sandoval from the 9irons to the Factory for Matt Cain and James Loney. Every year every owner has a move they wish they could take back. Up to this point I have regretted this move every day since May the 7th. Early in the season I really liked my pitching but felt my offense was one player away. I made the move for Sandoval thinking I had added another 290-300 hitter with 25HR potential batting in the middle of a lineup. Instead I have gotten production below a typical Waiver Wire replacement. To make matters worse Cain has been very good while Loney has outperformed Sandoval himself.

Sandoval- .245/3/27/24/0/.647

Cain-8/3.59/1.31/6.32/58

Loney- .303/4/30/44/5/.808

5/8 The 41129ers send Longoria back to the Smackers along with Andruw Jones for Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler. Another trade that could be blamed for the Smackers disappointing 2010. In defense of the Smackers Hamilton and Kinsler had both started off slow while Longoria had been a Top 10 overall player up to that point. For the 41129ers it was a move to add depth to a sluggish offense and the move has worked out well. On a strictly number basis this move could also be considered as the most onesided thus far.

Longoria- .233/2/11/13/2/.707

Jones(released on 6/14) .133/1/3/5/2/.481

Hamilton- .376/17/39/46/5/1.085

Kinsler- .307/3/39/26/6/.835

5/13 The 41129ers send Jason Bay and Ricky Romero to the 9irons for BJ Upton. Butchie isn't one to just let it all play out. The man likes to shake it up and the best way to shake it up is to pull the trigger on the trade. The 9irons needed some pop and although Bay isn't likely to hit more than 25 it appears to be more than double Upton's production. The 41129ers have received nice SB totals which were a need for the 41129ers also given the pitching success at the time Romero was expendable.

Jason Bay- .267/5/26/29/7/.803

Ricky Romero- 7/3.91/1.39/7.95/61

BJ Upton- .238/3/28/13/17/.740

6/21 On the day of the Swing and Swim many owners gathered at the league office later in the day for a Summer Meeting of sorts. It was my goal that a blockbuster trade would go down. In the late hours a blockbuster was completed sending Ryan Braun and Hideki Matsui from the 41129ers to the Vondeheides for Jose Reyes and Andrew McCutchen. Matsui was released once the trade was finalized so essentially it was a two for one deal. The move provided the 41129ers with some more speed options while Braun gave the Vonderheides some much needed offensive thump.

Jose Reyes- .310/1/10/4/2/.786

Andrew McCutchen- .179/1/7/7/2/.525

Ryan Braun- .250/3/11/9/1/.700

6/24 The biggest blockbuster of the season came on this day as the Vonderheides sent the number one ranked offensive player in Miguel Cabrera and a Top 5 pitcher in Josh Johnson with Garret Jones to the BC Dingers for Adam Dunn, Matt Kemp and Carlos Zambrano. The Vonderheides were willing to sacrifice the pitching of Johnson for what should be a better balance offensive duo in Dunn and Kemp. The two wild cards of course was Zambrano who can at times perform like an Ace and Garret Jones who is a solid 20+HR player. The advantage would likely go to whomever plays better between Jones and Zambrano. Shortly after the trade Zambrano had a meltdown and is now firmly in the doghouse and upon his return will likely be relegated to middle inning relief help for at least the near future but could be the rest of the season if he remains a Cub.

Dunn- .328/5/9/18/0/1.063

Kemp- .263/4/7/12/5/.854

Cabrera- .440/3/12/16/0/1.308

Jones- .203/1/2/6/0/.524

Johnson- 3/1.23/.86/10.22/25

6/30 The Dingers were hard at it again moving Madison Bumgarner and an injured Josh Beckett to the 41129ers for a disabled Jacoby Ellsbury. Basically one injured player for another while the 41129ers also get one of the best pitching prospect in the game. The Dingers get a possible elite SB option whenever he returns.

Bumgarner- 3/1.71/1.10/6.86/16

Beckett- NA

Ellsbury-NA

7/8 The 41129ers once again obtain Evan Longoria from the Smackers for Ian Kinsler and Jose Reyes. The 41129ers get some much needed punch in a singles happy lineup with limited power options. The Smackers added some much needed strength up the middle which have been dead roster spots for the Smackers all season.

Longoria- .400/0/3/0/1/1.100

Kinsler- .308/1/2/2/0/.824

Reyes- .167/0/0/1/0/.500

Grades (Based on Current Roster compared to Draft Roster)

41129ers- After all the moves the end result is the additions of Josh Hamilton, Andrew McCutchen, Evan Longoria, Madison Bumgarner and Josh Beckett while giving up Ryan Braun, Justin Verlander, Jacoby Ellsbury and Jason Bartlett. Verlander has certainly been the best pitcher but the offense of group one has been superior to group 2 thus far. B

Smackers- Four trades have netted the Smackers with two new players and losing two drafted players. After swapping Longoria and Kinsler back and forth several times with the 41129ers the Smackers have traded Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton for Joakim Soria and Jose Reyes. Though Soria has been effective Hamilton has been a Top 5 player thus far. D

Dingers- Hard telling how many trade request the Dingers have sent out but two of them have been accepted. These trades have netted the Dingers the number 1 offensive player in Miguel Cabrera a Top 5 pitcher in Josh Johnson and a Injured SB threat in Ellsbury. These acquisitions didn't come cheap as the Dingers did lose Matt Kemp and Adam Dunn. A

9irons- Two trades have netted the 9irons Matt Cain, Ricky Romero, Jason Bay and James Loney while only losing two underperforming stars in Sandoval and Upton. The point of a trade is to get better in terms of production over replacement player the 9irons rank at the top but the lack of star power makes his work underappreciated. A

BCFP- Verlander for Soria sounds solid to bad the other trade is on the resume. Two trades have netted me Sandoval and Verlander while I gave up Cain, Loney and Joakim Sorian. Not exactly improving the club with these moves. D

Los Vonderheides- Perhaps no team has changed the complexion of their team in trades more than the Vonderheides. The Vonderheides have had success pitching and SB this season and have struggled mightily with power so their trades focused on these issues. In the end Dunn, Braun and Kemp were added while Cabrera, McCutchen, Reyes, and Johnson parted ways. The Vonderheides received more talent than any other team in trades but they have also lost the most. In the end the Vonderheides are a better all around team at this point then to start the season but still may be one move away. B

Todd,

Let's worry about your masterbation habit first.

Thanks.
