-As we mentioned, there's been another Jagos Lasic sighting in the region.
The 6'9'' Serbian and his Morgan County Cougars came to Russell to take on the Red Devils. The 'Cougs held Russell without a single point in the first quarter. However, Kyle Skaggs would have none of it the remaining 3. The junior Skaggs poured in 25 to led the Devils past Morgan County 65-44. Russell forced the Cougars into 18 turnovers, and Morgan could never really get anything going offensively. It was like they were standing still. Lasic would finish with 14 points, on a 6 for 15 performance. He also received more praise from those in the region. Russell's Coach Merle Kidwell would say in an interview after the game, that "He is the most talented player in this region." This was Lasic's 4th game with the Cougars.
-The Scarlett and White of Boyd County traveled the Industrial Parkway to Vanceburg, to take on the other Lions from Lewis County. With BC's trip to Olive Hill to take on region leading West Carter on the Horizon(game is tonight), they continue to improve and gain confidence, as they would win this one 68-61. The Lions, who have now won 3 in a row, couldn't quite pull away from Lewis, though. That was all thanks to Lewis County's Brett Ruckel, who scored 25, of which included hitting 4 from behind the arc. Boyd's efforts were spear-headed by Jacob Mayse's 20, and quality production off the bench from Marcus Jarrell, who contributed 12. The County is transitioning into a team that likes to make runs, which is something that coach Randy Anderson has stressed in practices.
-Ashland-Blazer's Corey Gregg has a plan in mind to keep Fairview out of the winner's circle at Anderson Gym. Hold Fairview's Mike Terry under 40 points. It seems to have been a good idea. Terry finished the game just shy of that mark with 30, and Gregg added 35 points to aid his cause, leading all scorers, to help the Tomcats secure their 6th straight victory over The Eagles, 72-58. Gregg was 15 of 22 from the field, and Cody Withrow added 12 points and 7 assists to the Blazer's stat line. Gregg and Terry have a friendly rivalry, as they were former teammates at Rose Hill.
-It finally came together for Greenup County. The Musketeers used a team-effort to upset Ironton(#8 in Ohio's Div. IV) 62-57 at the 'Green House' in Lloyd. Senior center Hayden Stephenson knocked down two free-throws with only a few ticks left on the clock that cemented the 5 point win. Stephenson would finish with 16, and was joined by teammate's Justin Bond and Tanner Willis who added 15 and 16, respectively. Those two were also a combined 6 of 9 from downtown. Greenup used about every defensive scheme imaginable against the Tigers, and they succeeded in causing Ironton to alter it's offense, and hampering guard Zac Carter's scoring production. Carter would finish the game being held to just 9 points. However, Ironton's Trey Fletcher and Trevor White would both record double-doubles. Fletcher would tally 22 points and 11 boards, while White recorded one with 16 and 10.
