Bracke-Todd-igy and other observations

While March marches closer, we here at the 64 60 take a look at the teams that will fill up the NCAA Tourny bracket. We will look at the number 1 seeds, bracket busters, and everyone's favorite "bubble teams." This weeks installment lists who I think will be the number 1 seeds come tourny time.

Number 1 Seeds:

  1. UK - In my incredibly biased opinion the Wildcats are the best team in the nation. They are the most athletic and talented team in all the land and play very unselfish. They pass the ball well and can handle it at all 5 positions (a rare thing, even at in the NBA). The POY Anthony Davis changes opposing teams gameplans with his DEF impact. This is a point that Jimmy Dykes got right. Davis has more blocks then the majority of teams in college basketball and is on pace to break the single season record. Kidd-Gilchrist is an elite level glueman. He can honestly do everything on a basketball court. As Teague, Miller, Jones, Lamb, MKG, Davis, and Wiltjer continue to improve as the year progresses, UK has the best 7 in basketball. If I were another NCAA school, this installment of Cal's Cats would trouble me.

  2. OSU - The Buckeyes are the best team in the toughest conference. I expect OSU to come out on top in the Big Ten that boasts 5 teams in the Todd 25, the most of any conference. The Big Ten could get 7 or 8 in the tourny field. With Sullinger, William Buford, and Deshaun Thomas combining for a 47.3 ppg and Aaron Craft getting 2.5 steals per game, OSU has the ability to play well with few off nights. They play Big Ten DEF with an OFF game that will hang with anyone in the country. If Sullinger can stay healthy and continue to improve as the year progresses the Buckeyes could be a Final Four team.

  3. 'Cuse - The Orange are leading the Big East in thier last year of being apart of the conference. The Big East is deep again in 2012, although maybe not as elite as in years past. The 'Cuse have suffered a loss both in the L catagory and in the starting roster. C Fab Melo has to hit the books and get the GPA up to play. With Melo and his 3 blocks per game the Orange are the deepest team in the nation. They have 7 players that average 7 or more PPG. They are an athletic bunch that likes to run. PG Scoop Jardine is averaging 5 assists per game distributing on the fast break and the half court. While other teams have more stars, the Orange can play together and can stay fresh with 10 players averging more then 12 min. per game.

  4. Kansas - Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk. KU is on a ten game winning streak that includes a win @ Baylor and a 8-0 record in conference. Dick Vitale has said all year long that the Big 12 title runs through Lawrence and he apears to be correct. I think it comes down to the Feb. 4th matchup @ Missouri to decide the regular season title for the Big 12. I think Bill Self has done one of his best coaching jobs of his tenure at Kansas this year. Throw out the loss to Davidson and the Jayhawks have only lost @ #1 UK and @ #9 Duke. They have wins over elite talent in OSU and Baylor. Led by Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor, the Jayhawks continue to grasp the top of the Big 12.

other observations...

  • Pats - 31 Giants - 27 MVP - Gronkowski

  • Jorge Posada retires after 17 years and 5 World Series titles. "Forever a Yankee," Posada hangs it up with a .273 career batting average, 275 homers, and 1,065 RBI. He was a vital part of the Yankee years with Jeets, Mo, Bernie, and Andy Pettitte. We look for Posada to join Joe Girardi's staff after a year or so.

  • OKC has given Russell Westbrook a contract extension (5 years, 80 mil.) insuring that he and KD can play together for the foreseeable future. With the improved play from James Harden, OKC is a title contender as we speak and should be for the years to come.

A Jorge vs. Girardi Celebrity Death Match is more likely than Jorge as a Yankees Coach under Girardi.
