Long gone have been the days of Pro Wrestling from our youth. Now, let's be honest, the stuff has always been ridiculous, but until shock TV and cussing came along, it was always a lot more believable.
Nowadays, The guys can fall off cages, through 18 tables on fire, take 32 chair shots, and be kidnapped, tortured, have a stage fall on them, blow up in a limo, and be beaten repeatedly hit with a sledge hammer, and not even miss a beat, hell, half the time they still end up winning the match. And those who do these vile acts don't face any consequences for their actions, and show up on TV on Monday.
Used to, a chair shot to the head, or back, or a loaded Tennis racket or Italian leather shoe was all it took to down your foe. Hell, Ronnie Garvin's finishing move was a punch. A punch.
And it wasn't more realistic because we were 7, it was more realistic because it makes sense.
A guy hits you with one good solid punch, after building up that he had Marvin Hagler type hands, you're knocked out. End of story. Forget the fact that technically, Garvin's 'finisher' was a violation of the 'no closed-fist' ruling. He should have been DQ'ed every time he beat Gary Royal, Tommy Angel, George South, and The Mulkeys.
Same for a chair shot. One good one should be all you need.
Well, the leader of the circus, WWE, has surprised me again.
They are actually starting to make sense.
Tonight at the PPV, 'Hell In a Cell', Two guys who were 'fired' from the company, interrupted the show and beat up every participant in the main event. they attacked with what looked like black bats, and beat the 3 guys to a pulp. All the while the entire WWE roster was trying to get in the cage which had been locked from the inside. Oh the humanity...
So after the 2 'outlaws' came in and beat up the 3 main eventers, they also beat up the camera crew, and Refs. And of course the Police force was trying to get in too... and they did.
But instead of a tear-apart brawl and the evil baddies making an escape through the crowd, the PD held the others at bay while they entered the cage. Where they would find the two perps already assuming the position with their hands up. They were then cuffed and led out by the cops, and were not allowed to be touched by the other wrestlers. Of course, Triple H had to assault the two while the police were escorting them out cuffed.
But, this actually makes sense. 2 guys come down and assault about 8 people with weapons, usually when the cops are on hand, somebody is getting arrested, and the cops are also playing crowd control as to no the let the angry mob extract their own justice.
For once, this was mirrored in the alternate universe known as Pro Wrestling. Nobody applying finishing moves, and no exit through the crowd to an awaiting limo or rental car that is running, only to appear on TV the next night without any repercussions.
So, here is hoping that they keep with this trend. Just because it ain't real, doesn't mean you can't act like it is.
After all, that is what wrestling is all about. We don't want UFC realism here guys, just don't treat us like retards licking on glue-sticks.
