So, let's get this straight. Missouri wanted an invite from the BIG 10, and has wanted one for 2 years now, yet it hasn't came. Now, they are hoping to get an invite to be #14 in the SEC, with their own administrator saying that the Big 10 was their preferred choice, but the SEC is better than nothing... Are you serious???
Bill Self has already stated that if Missouri leaves the fractured and bleeding Big 12, he will not make any effort to schedule Missouri in basketball any longer.
And, in that event, the super-conferences will have broken up yet another rivalry. This one dating back to 1907. And Kansas has played it's basketball super-power position before in similar matters, as when Notre Dame broke from the CFA TV deal as a collective, and went with it's own contract with NBC, Kansas canceled the home and home basketball series with Notre Dame.
For me personally, the SEC ideally would need a 14th team after the addition of Texas A&M, but a 13 team league could be worked out, and the SEC would lose no clout as the top of the food chain. Matter of fact, it would take nuclear winter to deny the SEC it's power.
But Missouri? Just to get the Kansas City and St. Louis markets?
Missouri? If you take a look at the SEC, and how it has become the new rebel yell for the Old South, you notice that they are already for of all the big schools of the old south, minus Virginia and North Carolina schools. Now, they are adding the border states too, that is if Missouri is invited.
But with comments on the record by the school such as the one's above, I hope the SEC realizes they are the SEC and tells them to take their border-state ass and go give it a good self-fucking.
Instead, The SEC should make a push to take Florida State or Clemson from the ACC. Those two schools fit the conference mold more so than Missouri.
The Big 12, will continue to try to press on. If they can unite enough until 2013, they should be good to go. 2013, barring any Mayan Apocalypse, is the year that the lucrative Fox contract goes into effect.
The Big 12 is looking into re-stocking it's roster by adding either Louisville, West Virginia, and BYU. And, a dark horse has risen from Conference USA, Tulane. Honestly, Tulane is the best choice here. Dead serious.
They add academic prestige and a market in which currently the Big12 has no presence, New Orleans. While an annual conference basketball battle of Kansas and Louisville is tempting, Tulane is a better fit and choice. Regardless of the size of Louisville, and the market it would bring, it would be all for not. Kentucky, all of it, already belongs to the Cats, so they would gain nothing by being there. Also, academically, Tulane is a much better choice, and would look better on the BIG 12 resume than The Ville.
And West By Gawd continues to be an odd man out here. If the Big East does indeed collapse on schedule, WVU really is left out in the cold. They could fit in somewhat in the SEC, but I hate to say it, but the fan base is not anywhere near being confused as classy enough. For all the jorts, bad mullets, and cow bell ringing found in the SEC, nothing here even compares to the low class acts of the Morgantown fan base. But, I dig Country Roads...so... I just feel the ACC is a better fit for WVU, but I would not be bothered with them joining the SEC too much, so I guess we can all get used to coach burning. it actually looks like fun.
But for the love of Scarlet O'Hara, do not bring in Missouri. They have good academic standards, actually a hell of a lot higher than most of our beloved SEC schools, but there is reason that the BIG 10 has been denying their request to join since the 1990's... They are Missouri. And that spells M-I-S-S-E-R-Y. It's a drive-through state. Show Me state? Show Me the way outta' here.
