With the recent defections of Pitt and Syracuse to the no longer Southeastern based ACC, The Big East has been left a shell of it's former self. UConn is also aggressively pursuing a move to the ACC as well.
Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State struck up the band and started the final notes on the Big 12's death march, as it is expected that they will all 4 end up in the Pac 12. Texas A&M started the chorus of that tune when they announced thier plans to head east to the SEC, one season after the loss of Colorado and Nebraska to the Pac and Big 10.
And, WVU, yup, the by gawd, has also been linked to the SEC as it is rumored that they have decided to apply for admission to that conference as of today.
This will essential be the final blow to any association to the NCAA had with college football on the BCS level. It wasn't much to begin with.
It's a new world folks. A new frontier. It's a lawless frontier now. You think you are going to hear about sanctions and standards anymore? Nope. You think that alumni and boosters are going to try to even hide their actions? Nope. What you will see is CBS, FOX, and ESPN in control. You are going to see the athletes start getting paid. You aren't going to see high grade point levels.
So, out of greed for increased revenue and power, College Football has committed suicide to become this new monster. You have a favorite Rivalry? you have a favorite out of conference game you watch on a yearly basis? Sorry. Those died today too.
You are going to see more schools announce intentions in the next few days. You will probably see Louisville leave for the SEC too. And, what is left of the Big East and Big 12 will merge to form a conference that is more or less Conference USA and MAC level.
Yes Virginia (Tech), College Football as we knew it finally died.
Ironically, The Big East suffers perhaps more than any one here, and they are the conference who got this whole ball rolling a few years ago. Careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
