By now, you should all know the greatness that is Bill Simmons. He is one of only about 4 ESPN employees even worth liking these days. You should also know, by now, the greatness that is his new mass-media empire known as GRANTLAND.
But if you don't, well, go back to playing Halo45 or watching Zombie movies.
Currently grabbing my attention on the site, is Shane Ryan's piece on Ric Flair. To be more precise, the self-destruction of said Nature Boy.
That's right, another hero of my childhood is becoming a tainted shell of the image for which I held them. However, I have known about this for quite some time. The reports of the 'New' Ric come from various outlets from time to time. He's not the 'Naitch anymore. Hasn't been for quite some time. I mean, shit, when you make the People of Wal-Mart website after getting into an altercation at a autograph session/meet and greet at some podunk town's House of Walton, you have fallen pretty far. And, it makes me cry.
Divorce, Financial woes, drug abuse, fights with his daughters boyfriend(who whipped his ass), his youngest son being on heroin, Him blatantly ripping people off, and sexual assault on airplanes... The list goes on.
In 1986, this may have been Stylin' and Profilin', Kiss Stealin' and Wheelin' and Dealin' from a Son of a Gun, hell it may have even been that in 1997, but that time has passed now.
Not only do people not like it, but they have all but forgotten how they used to love it. Because when you are in your 60's, apparently, it's nowhere near being the best thing going today.
The Woooooooo! people used to scream out when he would be near have all but been replaced by Ughhhhhhhh!
The best description I have ever heard given of Flair was by UGO, in which they called him a 'coked up peacock'. Nowadays, it would appear some are trying to call him a 'broken down piece of shit'. I'm not one of those, but I can see their point.
Let me make this perfectly clear, If Ric Flair wanted to go door to door slapping old women and toddlers in figure fours, I would approve. I would help him achieve this any way possible.
