In-N-Out The 64/60 Week 20

Asterisks are used to call out a footnote associated with the neighboring subject. Perhaps the most notifiable asterisks in sports was the one associated with Roger Maris's 61 HR's. That asterisks was used to devalue Maris's HR record. Baseball leaders claimed it was because Maris achieved his total in 162 games compared to Ruth's 154, truth be told the name Maris doesn't have the same clout as Ruth. Asterisks often have a negative connotation attached with it. Fear not fans of the BCFP that little asterisks that you see alongside the Bear Creek FP Factory's name in the standings would not apply. That little asterisks you see signifies a place in the playoffs.0 "Why is the BCFP the lone team with one.", you ask. Perhaps it's because the BCFP has been the most dominate team from Week 1 on. A 15-3-2 straight up record on the year could be the most dominate performance in the history of the 64/60. I'll get the research department on it. Now one would think the Factory would set it on 70 and kick back untill a meaningful playoff game but that will not be the case. The top spot in the playoffs and $100 bucks is within reach and we will not fall short of the finish line. With a 12 game edge on the Stars it appears as though this weeks matchup with Walls of Jericho will decide the top spot in the playoffs. If I can earn a 6-6 split or better the top spot should belong to the Factory come September. If the Walls handle me as they have their last two opponents then it could make that final week meaningful for both squads.

Though not everyone has earned their own asterisks as of this point go ahead and pencil Walls Of Jericho and B'Ville Stars into two of the top 3 spots as well as the Coalton Lads who already have 6 stats up on the Majesticals due to no pitchers in the lineup and you can expect several more wins coming their way as the Majesticals lineups features 3 DL players, one getting his licks at AAA, and no SS. Thus leaving the 9irons and Militia trying to hold off the Deathsquad for the six playoff spots. The Militia certainly have the most difficult path in comparison to the 9irons which makes this weeks showdown more important for the Militia. With the Majesticals next on the slate for the 9irons the Milita will have to win in dominate fashion to make Week 22's Head to Head battle with the Deathsquad not a winner take all matchup for the 6th and final playoff spot.

In other 64/60 news the Football draft will be this Saturday at 7PM. Make sure all teams have been registered prior to the draft so I can plug in rosters as the draft is being held. The first transaction of the Football season took place this week as Bill Fenney didn't want the pressure of the number 1 overall selection and sent it to the Davidson clan for the 12th pick in the draft. Also several changes have been made to the rosters and scoring systems since the league opened. I covered most of these in last weeks In-N-Out and I will send out a newsletter (email) to everyone this week going over the scoring, rosters, and the potential of a keeper league. As always the 64/60 Football Draft will be a night of marginal food, good drinks, laughs, an occasional tear from the elders who stay out past their bed times, lengthy breaks in between picks, and without a doubt countless players being selected time and time and time again. We have new neighbors on both sides that need to be broken in right and I have 6 Old Style tall boys in the fridge ready to assist in this mission. Call Andy and get him over here!

Game Recaps

BCFP 10 vs. Majesticals 2. It's been a troubling month for the Factory. Sure the record has been there but the production hasn't. The offense has struggled and the pitching has been maddening because of inconsistency. Beltre and Reyes both appear to be heading back healthy in time for the playoffs so I am confident the offense will once again find it's stride. As for the pitching it looks as though some roster management will be needed along the way to end this season with another Championship.

Militia 6 vs. Lads 4. Don't call it a comeback this man has been here for years. I have a new found respect for Lemaster. Is he a wild card? Yes. Is he sometimes to quick to pull the trigger? Yes. Does the urge to shake it up at times lead to bad decisions? Absolutely. But the bottom line Nobody and I mean Nobody watches the Stattracker pitch by pitch as much as this man. And if their is justice in this world this man should have a Playoff spot waiting. I have been critical of this team all year as has the Power Rankings but this squad seems to have that certain spunk or It factor as the experts say. Perhaps the best quality of the Milita is their ability to sense weakness and attack. Take this week for example. Facing the walking wounded in Chris Lee who is still recouping from the gruesome injury suffered celebrating a infield single over a month ago. Chris was feeling good with a 6-6 split untill the Militia unleash Yaldier Molina and with two swings of the bat that 6-6 tie became a loss. Does the Milita call their lifelong freind sending condolonces? No. Instead on these very pages he post Yaldier Molina for the Win in the Headline. Cutthroat.

9irons 9 vs. tbd 2. I don't know where this offense has came from judging by the season totals I suppose it's been here all season but like a snake in the grass it's been laying low a patiently waiting to strike. Outside of SB's this is a top 5 unit in every stat and is tops in the league in AVG and RBI. I have no doubt this offense can carry a team throughout the playoffs but the question remains can this rotation with Cain as the headliner and AJ Burnett in it win more than a game in the playoffs. GRC3 if you need assistance please feel free to call me and I can assist you in these efforts. Standard Fees may apply.

Emanski 6 vs. Colonels 3. Yaldier Molina's two HR night likely hurt Emanski more than the Lads. Looking to gain about 2 games or so in the standings with the win in combination with the Milita loss, the Deathsquad could have been just a game and a half from the 6th spot. Other squads could easily fall apart from the setback but not this squad. What I like about the Deathsquad is their balance. Their offense isn't great but outside of SB and maybe Runs this squad will likely contend and their pitching is solid across the board and ranks among the Top 3 units (Butch Lemaster Not Approved) statistically. Of all the teams outside of the Top 3 I like Emanski's chances the best to make a long playoff run. Hobson last week you needed a miracle. This week your season is over. You can now focus on the upcoming football season.

Dog 6 vs. Stars 5. Perhaps the most devestating loss of the week. The Stars have been either first or second in the standings from April on but a 12-23 stretch over the last three weeks has them out of the first round bye at this point. The offense is still solid but one has to wonder about the pitching void of a closer and with Jurrjens no longer pitching like the Ace he has been this season. The schedule down the stretch looks manageable but so did the last two weeks contest against MROTA and Komodo and we see how those turned out. The Stars can still creep into a first round bye but they will certainly need to play much better and have a little luck come their way. For the Dogs it would be nice to see a little three game winning streak to end the season and build momentum for next years draft that will likely not feature 5 Catchers.

Walls Of Jericho 10 vs. MROTA 2. Has easily handled the games that he should but does he have what it takes to put a dent in the BCFP's armour heading into the playoffs. The Factory won the early season contest 8-4 and would love to match that this week to secure the top spot in the standings. Should Jericho hand the Factory one of their pattened 10-2 victories then the top spot in the standings would feature a new name. Though I have only spoken this to my pillow, I have said that the Walls are certainly a force to be reckoned with and I do consider them my biggest threat in a one week format.

Pickup Of The Week

Ramon Ramirez- Tom Emanski's Deathsquad. It's at the point of the season that unless your nabbing a closer or a injury replacement your likely swapping like players for like players. Wilson's injury is thought to be minor with rest the cure. Therefore this pickup could net 2 or 3 SV over the course of one week and essentially have no value. However there is a chance Wilson doesn't get things right this injury stretches out through September and Emanski gains a closer for a playoff contending team who tends to play in tight contest. So to spare Josh Willingham or Jose Tabata types from another honor will go with the potential value of Ramirez.
(For the Record I do like the Soto pickup by the Lads however with Mauer and Martin already in fold. I don't know how much stronger the team became.)

Head Scratcher Of The Week

LeMaestro's Militia drops Derek Holland for Logan Morrison. A perfect example as to why one should not monitor Stattracker for long periods of time. Up until his most recent start Holland had been great, since July the 7th Holland had posted 6 QS in 8 appearences with a 2.63 ERA with a 1.13WHIP and 43K in 54 and 2/3 innings. Yet Ev is watching Holland get lit up in a tight contest with one of his nemisis and those other 6 starts are completely vanished from his mind. Ev heads to the Waiver Wire and Filters by Highest rated player and Logan Morrison is the lone name that appeals to him, disregard the NA next to it. The decision results in a Top 25 overall pitcher over the last month and a half being released and a marginal fantasy player when in the majors being picked up while he is on a minor league sabatical. When making decisions you must take the emotion out of it and Lemaster failed to do so once again.
