Ok, it's no secret that there are a few of us here who like the pro wrasslin' show. It's also no secret as we advance in age, this is a little sad and socially shunned.
But seriously, I don't watch it as much anymore, but when I do catch it, it never ceases to embarrass me. Where have you gone Ricky and Robert?
The Miz is the new WWE(spinner belt for the kiddies) Champion. You know him, from MTV Real World fame. Yup. He is the champion. They don't give Curt Hennig a run but they give this fuck stick one? That point was brought up by Jerry Lawler at ringside. He made reference to the amount of 'legends' who never got a chance to be champion. Roddy Piper also alluded to that situation on previous WWE programming. And when you look through the list, when you index Wikipedia and Google, the list is a pretty impressive one. Now, we are talking huge names who never got a chance to run with the WWE gold. Steamboat, Hennig, Piper, Rude, and others are on this list for the WWE. The list of WCW also rans is also impressive and mind boggling as to who they didn't book as champion. Then, you look at who was booked and it makes even less sense. David Arquette in WCW??? Even Vince McMahon in WWE! Hell, The Crocketts put the strap on Ron Garvin, but didn't pull the trigger on Koloff ??
Back to the present... Lawler said he had been with the WWE(F) since 1993, and never had gotten a shot. Now, according to Memphis, Lawler was a version of a world champion at least 5 billion times, most notably the AWA version which he won from Curt Hennig. Now, I know it's all about marketability and the ability to draw crowds and make the office money and sell tickets, but seriously, Bret Hart didn't make the WWF alot of money as champion, but they kept putting the belt on him... It makes no sense.
To make it even worse, Miz' first title defense was against Lawler. Not against one of the guys they need to push to the main event, but Jerry Lawler. who hasn't wrestled more than once a year in front of more people than 75 in about 13 years. Lawler was hired as a side show act all those years ago. he was never looked at as a everyday performer by the time he got to Stamford. The USWA was dying, and Lawler was already past his prime. He was brought in for his mouth, his wit, and to replace the Bobby Heenan factor at the broadcast table. So now, all these years later, he gets his title shot, against a former reality show star who won the title by cashing in a promise that was in a briefcase, and I would say the Dusty Rhodes photos that Baby Doll and Larry Zybysko were blackmailing him with were in there too...
Ok, I can dig a good nostalgia fit. I have no problem with Lawler in the ring. Go ahead and throw a title shot with all that backstory too, and I buy it... But you put Lawler in TLC match??? Really??? So what was a stretch to begin with just entered the land of the obsurd. I understand trying to hide Lawler's age and his lacking work rate. However, they could have found a better way to go about it than a TLC match. And then you have another broadcaster interfere and COST Lawler the match? They accomplished getting Lawler over, which he didn't need as he is already as over as you can possibly be, and they kept getting the fans to spew hatred at Michael Cole, which is a sign that Steph really does not have any clue as to what she is doing. So Miz gets the win, Lawler gets screwed at a title reign, and Cole and Lawler will have the angle of tension between them at the broadcast table for the coming weeks on Raw... Who cares? I don't give a shit if Michael Cole and Lawler like each other, I don't care to hear them bicker, I don't care that Lawler will try to extract revenge on Cole and beat him down, I don't want to see Cole and Lawler in the ring. I don't even think Memphis would care, and these people have been watching Lawler and Bill Dundee fight for 40 years!
So to you WWE, I ask... What the F@#K?????

Sorry, Rich.
