Ernie Banks, The Hawk, and Kain Colter...
For the firs time since1938, and taking a more recent page out of the NHL's cross-promotion unique experience handbook, the shit-box known as Wrigley Field will host a Big 10 Football Game this weekend. And when I say shit-box I mean it the most sincere, historically accurate sense of the word.
Northwestern will take on in-state foe Illinois in the land of Ivy. It's a Big 10 game, so obviously I care a little less than not at all about the match-up. What I do enjoy about it is that it is a throwback to a by-gone era, the only thing the promoters missed out on was leaving basepaths and infield dirt on the playing field, just like those early NFL and AFL teams used to, and the way Catlettsburg Junior High did( there was nothing worse than being tackled on the pitcher's mound or slipping on home plate in the endzone)
So, they are missing the boat on that little nuance of the attraction, but I dig where they are trying to go with this and what they are trying to accomplish.
And, just like a sand-lot game of flag-football, only one endzone will be used. Safety reasons have been sighted as one of the endzones is mere feet away from the wall in the outfield. So,in classic JFL fashion, when possesion is changed, the teams will switch sides, not sure if coaches are going to be in the huddle and standing behind the offense calling plays too...
And, they painted the Wrigley sign purple... I am sure Burt shed a tear or two when that happened...
It should also be noted that Yankee Stadium is going to host a meaningless bowl game this year.

It should also be noted Gilbert that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play the Black Knights of Army at Yankee Stadium Tonight. Regarding the game at Wrigley, even if the one end-zone concept deminishes the game somewhat, I believe the concept is something that should be done more often. Your description of Wrigley is off the mark. Sure the bathroom are really small and even a guy has to take 45 minutes to take a leak and sure when you sit down your sheens are rubbing against the seat in front of you but the field itself is one of "the most beutiful things these eyes have ever seen" to quote Ned Beatty from Rudy.
