In news that spread through the Mountain State faster than Mothman sightings or Burt's Big 3 liters for 3 Dollars sale at Speedway, noise was being made that Bill Stewart would be leaving Morgantown. Ironically, the man who he replaced, Rich Rodriguez is also on the chopping block in Ann Arbor.
The school and Stewart however have both issued statements to the contrary, with both stating that Ol' Man of The Mountain would not be going anwhere, and that he was going to be the head coach at WVU. Which is to be expected that they would release comments to this affect.
However, names have already surfaced of those who may be coming to Morgantown, and all 3 have ties to Bobby Bowden, dad gummit.
All 3 are also native sons. They were all born in west Virginia. Those listed were current Florida State assistant head coach Rick Trickett, and two of Bobby's procreations Terry and Tommy. Now, it owuld be a dream come true for a Bowden to be back at the helm in Morgantown, and it would be something I would like to see too. But, Bill Stewart was thrust into a role that he has had a great deal of success in, and I would not classify his tenure as a failure by any means. I will say that Stewart would not be able to attract the number of high profile recruits to Barney Fife's hometown as a Bowden would, nor would he ever get the amount of admiration one of Bobby's boys, or a member of his coaching family tree(Trickett) ever would.
After the Bowl games are over with, the coaching landscape is going to be very interesting to watch all the changes. Seemingly every program that is going to or already has an opening is salivating over San Diego State's current Head Coach, everybody except the 'Eers, they are going getting a bulge just thinking about a Bowden coming home...
Now I am gonna give some odds here on this one, I said Strong would stay at Louisville, at least another year, and I think that the Bowden boys might be about 32% possible, and the rest is just wishful WVU faithful thinking, with that in mind, I think that Trickett gets over-looked and Terry, not Tommy, is hired in Morgantown, If there is any truth, or even a hint of, to the two Bowdens even remotely entertaining the thought of coming 'home'.
