So, I was doing some channel surfing, and low and behold I came across WCW Monday Nitro, which cleverly disguised it's self as TNA Impact on a different night... obviously the work of Merlin level magicians...
Now, I have not been able to catch much TNA, WWE, or whatever other three letter controled-combat shows may be out there to catch, but damn if something isn't the same as it was in 1997...and that is Ric Flair.
Yup, 4000 year old Ric Flair is apparently going to wrestle tonight on the show, according to the ever-important show opening, in the middle of the ring rant and challenge of manhood between Flair, and a huge youngster named Matt Morgan, who is about 40 years the junior of Flair...
Flair, needs to hang it up...I mean the man is a hero of mine, but damn, he is my dad's age, I loved every minute of his career growing up, and the late 90's were so enjoyable because I knew anyday would be his last in the ring...He was in his 50's... it was 1998....now it's 2010, and he is still wrestling... So, now I am compelled to watch, not because he is a jet flying, kiss stealing son of a gun, but because the morbid curriousity of him dying in the ring on tv is so compelling...But it's taped and not live so no chance of that happening tonight...Ric, you survived a plane crash, was booked into the position of the best in the business about 5 billion times, you really should think about playing some spades and smoking some cigars and just chilling out in that biggest house on the biggest hill, on the biggest side of town...
Classic Flair quote from the portion of the show I saw...
as Matt Morgan quips back at Flair and looks to the crowd.. "Don't look at the crowd for approval, HEY!, (as Flair turns Morgan's attention back to him) I told you to keep your eyes on god!"
