At the risk of having too many postings about BCHS Football, and the fact that the Germans apparently love them some Scarlet and White.... I give you this tid-bit...
I have heard some rounds today that apparently Coach Lee Evans' turbulent and very un-successful stint at the helm of the County may be over. Sources have told me today that several possibilities have aroused regarding Evans and his future, and the future of his son, sophomore QB Lance, and the program in general.
scenario one had Evans being fired/resigning from the head coaching position and no longer teaching at BC. His replacement was rumored to be the current Lawrence County head coach, which would only had to the hatred that is shared between these two long standing kissing cousins, er Rivals...
So, is this the true reason Lance, his son, was the starter at QB this season? To gain experience for a transfer that Evans knew all along was going to happen? did he sabotage a season in which a few more wins could have be had with a more experienced player at the helm? And the offense it's self seemed to be centered around being a learning exercise for Lance, several times I though to myself that this was just a dress rehearsal during games, and that the overall W-L record was not the grading scale to be used, so at the expense of wins and the other players, it was primarily an exercise to groom a starting QB for someone else's program..
Now, like i said, none of this can be confirmed, and with the mighty 1 win Lions heading to Log Mountain for the playoffs Friday night, You can rest assured that nothing would be made public for at least another week or so if any of this has any shred of truth to it... However, it is very likely that if this was the direction the school was going to go with the program, then chances are, even before an official statement would be made, the players should have some sort of hint as to the future and what it holds for them... The locker room after what will be a very bad loss for BC on Friday may be where Evans announces his intentions or addresses the rumors, or puts them to rest for the players.
My sources, while none of which have been directly from the mouths of players, seem to be the chatter over heard coming from players about the future of Evans' at the helm of the sinking ship. Members of the Quarterback(booster)Club told me of the Lawrence County coach coming in, and other sources told me of the academic ramifications of Evans no longer occupying a teacing position in BC.
If this turns out to be true, let me go on the record of saying that Lee Evans was robbed of his opportunity to coach Blazer years ago when they brought in Hart, Vic Marsh had groomed Evans for that role, and the Dane Damron years saw Evans, and the Marsh father and son duo leave Blazer and head to the County, for what was undoubtedly BC's most successful years since the mid 80's. Evans was also handed a bare cupboard when Dane left for KCU. He was saddled form the very beginning and had to deal with a notoriously ridiculous group of Alumni and a fan base that has the most ludicrous expectations every season. He truly did the best he could with what he had, and the record is no indication of the strides he made as a head coach with nothing to work with in Cannonsburg. They are turning the corner, which was evident by the Ashland game, and now, while they are standing at a crossroads, a make or brake point in the program, I am not sure if a 'fresh start' is the best idea for BC. The attitude was Win now...but you can't run the race if you don't have the horses.
Now a bad cop moment... I would not have started Lance this season.
and since Burt has decided to come up with all kinds of facts and figures this week...
The Scarlet and White currently stand at the 183rd best Football Program in the State of Kentucky, and rank nationally at 12242... Now, I have no Idea what that means to our readers in Germany, The UK, or Brasil...
Just for a comparison, Ashland ranks in at 65th in Kentucky by the numbers, and 4199 in the nation. These numbers come from the system used by MaxPreps/CBS Sports based on statistical information as reported to the service from Coaching staffs, media, and governing bodies from their respective state.
And for shits and giggles, Ironton is ranked 83rd in the state of Ohio, and falls in nationally at 1205.
oh, and Ironton just scored on Ashland again.
