Hate Breeds Hate...and some good football...

Rival...Hate. Intense passion of wanting to beat one's peer...Blind rage...
Here in Eastern Kentucky, we are not really known to have a bevy of high powered football teams. Known more for OC80's and Back child-support, Eastern Kentucky football is a strange beast. Some times that animal is a huge monster master of it's domain, some times it is an endangered species and the Varsity more resembles a mediocre at best Middle School club. Now, what may be lacking in over-all quality of play and opposition... Us here in God's country make up for with our ability to hate. And we can hate somebody like a mother fucker...
Friday Night the 606 had a night full of teenage hatebreeding. If there was any time during the season that you could label Rivalry Week, on a broad scale, it was last night. Now, every school around here is a rival, with everybody being so close to one another in proximity, but being on polar ends of the spectrum when it comes to culture. Some Rivals are just bigger than the other...BC and Ashland has long been replaced by Ashland Russell. Greenup and Raceland fight like siblings over the last pork chop. East and West are as different as anything in Carter County could possibly be. So, on our plate last night, we were treated to a full course meal of good, old fashioned hate and angst...
Greenup County 60 Raceland 34
-In recent years, Greenup County had become a joke on the level of Boyd County on the field. Playing 3rd fiddle in a 2 fiddle county behind Russell and Raceland. Raceland had owned big brother Greenup. The tide has changed, and it's a big green wave sweeping through...Greenup county topped beating Russell in convincing fashion last week by being the last gunslinger standing against Raceland. Raceland is not the typical Rams explosive team, but take nothing away from Greenup, They prooved last week that their performance against Ashland was no fluke. They are the Real Deal down there in LLoyd. GC's Corey Lyle outscored Raceland on his own and set a new school record of 334 yards to go along with his 6 TD's. The previous record was set by Rashard Carter last season with 272 yards in a single game. The total Offensive numbers were also a school best 648.
Fairview 48 Boyd County 6
- Last year, Fairview shocked most with the schools first ever victory over the County. Westwood has always kinda been like a step sibling to the bigger Boyd and for them to finally beat that bigger, asshole brother, it was huge for them. This is not your typical rivalry, as it has been dominated when they do meet by the County, and BC fans and players have never looked to Westwood as any type of equal or threat. Well, the Scarlet and White better be raising some red flags, because the threat is real. After 2 years in a row, this may now be the circle the calendar game for both schools, Ashland is always going to be the game for Boyd, but Fairview may be the game with the most pride at stake. Fairview overcame some jitters and over-zealous early play and penalties to cruise in Cannonsburg to get the 'dub'. Our boy Kimbro also found the endzone. Fairview Coach Nate McPeek had this to say,"It's time people start respecting what we are trying to do here." BC coach Lee Evans saw some positives in the Young Lions play and execution and fans in Lions Stadium, while disapointed also noticed an improvement. "I know the scoreboard doesn't look like it, but we were twice as good tonight.", said Evans. A small group of fans are calling for his head. You people need to sit down and shut the fuck up. With what BC has given him, without Evans t the helm, things would be alot worse.
West 35 East 8
-Well, for the second straight year, folks could congregate at Smokey Valley and celebrate the Comets winning "The Battle of the Barrell" while they danced the night away to Tom T. Hall. Danny CLine ran well last night, with 2 scores on 133 yards to led West to the victory over the Truck Stop Mexicans. Olive Hill has been ravaged by Floods. Now if you read the ADI write up, they are going all Katrina/Saints superbowl with it. Not to make light of the situation. but if it trully was inspiring and a 'pick-up' for the community to see them win that game, well , that would warm my heart to know end to know that a small town still lives and dies with it's football team.
Johnson Central 14 Sheldon Clark 12
-Right on 23 in Inez sets a football field wedged between a mountain and a school. There, The Cardinals, who would be seemingly out matched on paper to the Golden Eagles, controlled the game, they controlled the tempo and pretty much played they way they wanted when they wanted. It was like watching Tully and Arn cut the ring in half and work over Ricky Morton in their corner. The usually strong and potent JC offense was silenced by the Cardinals. But, luckily for the Eagles, their defense was able to make just enough noise to come out on top. A huge Johnson Central stop on a 2 pt conversion was just enough to keep JC a step ahead on the battle, and a late minute INT sealed the deal. Start up the bus, you survived another friday night.
I am not even going to mention the absolute ass kicking Blazer handed Russell. Jesus it was 40-something to 7 at half time. Russell suprised me last week by hanging with Ironton like they did. All that shows me now is that no matter what the Tanks Stadium officiating crew can muster up, The Tomcats are going to beat Ironton into oblivion. You thought last year at Putnam was a Maroon beat down over Lutz and his Tigers??? Frogtown and the Endzone are going to be a little solem and subdued this year after the game, because there is no way possible for Tanks to still this one from a much more talented, and better, and quite frankly juggernaut of a team in Ashland.
