In-N-Out The 64/60 Week 9

I apologize to those loyal viewers who were disappointed not to see a new post for Monday morning. We here at the Coleman household have passed around a vicious stomach virus this week and on Saturday Night/Sunday I was it. I didn't realize it was possible to throw up 20 times over a course of four hours but I accomplished this feat. All is well today and I hope to provide everyone with the same cutting edge analysis that I deliver each and every week.

What a difference a week can make. All around the league teams were putting up solid offensive numbers across the board. Last week the high in Runs and RBI were 51 and 48. This week three team surpassed the Run mark while 7 teams either tied or surpassed the RBI totals. The league low this week of 38 doubled the low point of 19 from Week 8. Excluding Hell and Damnation's 38 and 29 marks every team posted totals that more often than not can gain victory. Typically the increased offensive numbers would cause a decline in pitching performance but that wasn't the case this week as only 4 teams had a ERA north of 4.20 which is a typical performance week. So all of these numbers mean that Week 9 was a week for the tough loss. But as Christopher Lee so intelligently pointed out it is a league of matchups.

Around the league the 41129ers have thrown there hands up in the air and have surrendered to the streaming temptations. The 41129ers didn't appear to use any scientific approach to it but simply looked at Probable Starts and clicked Add player. The method worked as the likes of Luis Atilano, Mitch Talbot, and Rodrigo Lopez pitched gem after gem. In all the 41129ers set a new 64/60 2010 record with 14 QS. As for the Factory who fell victim to the Mad Scientist and self proclaimed "Owner of The Year", Butch Lemaster, have now lost 3 of 4 and are closer to the forgotten than to the contenders.

The 9irons continue their hot streak and have now been the winners of 4 straight. Once again the 9irons find themselves at the top of the leaderboard. The 9irons once again put up stellar offensive numbers but once again it is the much maligned pitching staff that sealed the deal. I have been critical on multiple occasions of the 9irons back end of the rotation but from this point forward I will let his league best pitching totals speak for itself. While my 4.+ team ERA will remain near the bottom of the league. As for the Hebrewers much like the Factory it just wasn't to be this week. Run and RBI total in the mid 40's will usually get you something as will a .285 AVG and a .817 OPS. The loss gives the Hebrewers a 2-3 mark over the last 5 games.

The BC Dingers managed to holdoff the Colonels for another week with a 9-2 win over the Stars. The Dingers share the best Head-To-Head record with the 9irons with a 6-2-1 record. The Dingers had the best all around offensive week posting 58 Runs, 14 HR, 51 RBI to go with 13 SB and a .334 AVG and .934OPS. Although the pitching wasn't good the Dingers benefited from a preferable matchup and still managed a 3-2 edge despite a 4.35 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. As for the Stars that is their 3rd loss in 4 games and a 2-3 mark over the last 5.

Break up the Rubber Duckies. After being the league whipping post for the first 6 weeks the Duckies have now one 2 of 3. It is amazing what a full roster can do for someone. The Duckies offense had it's best all around performance of the season and did just enough on the rubber to get the W. With Strasburg set to debut this week the Duckies could make for a tough out from week to week. As for the Smackers they have now lost 4 in a row. Jesse Ward is still unresponsive to any contact from the Commish and are fading fast into the cellar. I hope this is just a phase Mr. Ward is going through. Every league needs a bad guy and Jesse plays the role so well.

Another week another tight contest for Worldwide. Prestige has now played in four consecutive matchups decided by two stats or less and has posted a 3-0-1 mark in them. Though I am not a psychologist I would have to think that these battles really build team chemistry which should serve well come playoff time. In many ways I think Todd may have participated in the "Fantasyland" approach this season. It is as if his players don't play for the name on the back nor on the front but the name that appears on the Yahoo 64/60 league Website.....Prestige Worldwide. As for the Carp it was a nice bounce back week offensively after a terrible Week 8 but the Carp simply fell victim to the damn matchup. Chris I once again want to thank you for discovering this. The Carp now have a 1-4 record over the last 5 and have dropped three straight.

Though the Hendo Colonels didn't take the two spot this week they still managed not to lose much ground. The Colonels easily handled another Coleman with a 9-3 win over Hell and Damnation. The Colonels are even with the 9irons for the hottest team winning 5 straight matchups. The Colonels are tied for the best record with a 6-2-1 mark. The Colonels would like for everyone to know that they have made 5 moves on the season which should reward them with best draft honors. Though I am not sold on this proclamation it is hard to refute it. The Colonels also had an outstanding offensive week with 57 Runs, 14 HR, 53 RBI and a .296 AVG and a .847 OPS. As for Hell and Damnation they have now lost 4 straight and have a 0-1-5 mark over the last 6. They hold the leagues worst Head To Head record and it seems that parts of H&D ownership have sworn it off all together.

Pickup of the Week

Mat Latos- Hell and Damnation. It has gotten to the point in the season were most of the players picked up a rent a players. Latos should provide steady production to a team starving for pitching. Though the $12 bid may have been more than needed if Latos's production continues he will be well worth the price.

Head Scratcher of the Week/ Trade Evaluation

DC Dingers trade Elvis Andrus to the 41129ers for Marco Scutaro and Zach Greinke. Typically I keep trade evaluations seperate from the Head Scracther but this week I couldn't prevent it. The 41129ers traded a top 5 pitcher from last season who was selected in the 2nd round of this years draft along with a middle of the road SS/MI for a Up and Coming player with no lengthy track record and who was drafted as a middle round pick. I agree that Greinke is likely not the pitcher of 2009 but at the same time his 2010 hasn't been as bad as his record would indicate. If a draft was to be held today I am rather confident that Greinke would be among the top 10-15 pitchers taken. Andrus has had a fine season thus far. He is a good speed option but his .300 AVG thus far is hardly a guarnatee. The trade isn't worthy of a protest but it was on the border. The 41129ers simply could have gotten a better player than Andrus for the package they gave up. If the 41129ers wanted AVG and Speed perhaps Ichiro would have been a better fit than Andrus. Bottom Line the 41129ers gave up a Top 15 overall pitcher along with a viable MI option in Scutaro for a Non-Elite player.

64/60 at the NFBC. Moved up to 4th in the league this week and 81 overall. That is up one league spot and 23 spots overall. Good week at the plate and solid pitching. Are no longer bottom of the pack in any stat and are lowest place is 8th. This increased balance leads to a higher ranking and growth potential.

Since Jesse is proving to be unresponsive let me carry the bad guy torch for the week.I have looked at,evaluated and weighed the trade between Butch and Chris and, sorry Butchie boy ,it was completly one sided. This is my last mention of the trade.
