Week 1 Fireside Chat w/ The Bopp W/ Burt Pissin' Out The Fire.

Week 1 is in the books, and now we can all panic and drop C.C Sabathia for Dallas Braden. As Burty, mentioned earlier....No need to get too excited this early as you still have over 5 months to correct any week 1 disaster.

*BC Haimsters continue their unprecedented streak as my teams have now held or shared 1st place consecutively in parts of 3 different seasons. During the regular season, I haven't had a team out of 1st place since 2008. A feat that will never be matched in this or most fantasy leagues for that matter.
-First place according to the alphabet but first none the less.

*The Beak and I both happened to attend the Reds/Cubbies game on Sunday......And we've have seen the future....Well, thats possibly overstating it a bit. But, Mike Leake was the Reds starter matching up with Gorzelanny.
Leake looked solid in a Reds win, albeit giving up 7 walks(homeplate ump was calling a very tight strike zone), in not just his major league debut.....But his professional baseball career. This kid from Arizona State completely skipped over the minors, after dominating the Pac-10 and having a solid spring. Mike gave up 1ER and struck out 5 over 6.2 IP while also collecting 2 hits.
I'm not much for giving out free fantasy tips on here, but this is a guy that will be worth owning this year if you have a staff that can handle his "rookie" outings, or if you looking for spot starts.
-Before we annoit him the next Dwight Gooden keep in mind that the Cubs left 9 runners on base while he was pitching. Also keep in mind the Cubs have struggled for the last 5 years with pitchers they have not seen before. Still a interesting pickup.

*Albert Pujols is off to a blazing start...Heres another guy I really like this year if he can break into the lineup on a regular basis.
-I hate this bastard. He robbed the BCFP of a Victory.

*The Hendo Colonels will win this league running away this year as long as Placido Polanco, Vernon Wells and Rajai Davis can maintain their current top 10 hitters rank throughout the season. Seems likely, doesn't?
On a side note, Ryan Howard of the Colonels/Phillies is my pick for National League MVP this year

*Tim Lincecum struggled throughout the spring and now has 17K's in 2 games with and ERA/WHIP of 1.20 and 0.78 respectively. The Freak's struggles in the spring are becoming a regular occurence, and alot of people are expecting his body to break down with his abnormal delivery......BE ADVISED....Lincecum is the best pitcher in all of baseball and will hold that title for many years to come.

*Alex Gonzalez, the Blue Jays SS and current 64/60 free agent is currently tied for the Major League lead in HomeRuns with 4.(Along with Pujols, Wells and Cruz).....Play along at home....ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER. Gonzalez's 4 dingers is half of his total from the last two years.

*Conan O'Brien is heading to the Superstation....TBS hasn't really had my attention since the days of the WCW.... this might change that.....Look for Conan in November.
-
-You mean George Lopez doesn't get your attention.
*Kentucky Wildcats head coach, John Calipari.....Apparently he is on the verge of putting together a better recruiting class than last years(3 or more of the top 5 players in 2011 is possible).......On a personal note....HOLY FUCK, I love this guy!!!!
-Too bad it won't count in three years.

*Sign me up for the Jason Heyward bandwagon. The "kid" looks like a "MAN" and while maybe he doesn't have the type of season alot of people are expecting based on the hype, he looks like he'll be headlining the Braves for quite sometime.
-Won't have a Fred Lynn/Ichiro rookie year but the ROY is his to lose.
*Sure it is only one week in, but would anyone like to know who currently is the 18th ranked outfielder in Yahoo scoring is????? Richard Ankiel....I'm a fan, and with a guaranteed full time job in KC, I like Ankiel's upside this year.
-As much as this guy has been through I would like nothing more.

Donovan McNabb traded to the Redskins...Your thoughts? Never really thought too highly of McNabb and think the Eagles are much better off with Kolb.
-This is the most ridiculous statement I have ever read within this 64/60 Blog. Is McNabb sometimes given more credit than he deserves, perhaps, but if you bothered to watch Kevin Kolb in college he simply doesn't have IT. Many successful QB's have come from small schools but the difference between Kolb and the others is his inability to make his school better. Farve, Culpepper, Pennington, Leftwich and other small school QB took their teams to uncharted territory. Kolb was never able to achieve this Houston was no better with him than they have been without him. In many ways he is much like a Tulane QB who had all the tools but never really panned out. Kevin Kolb meet JP Losman. I want nothing more than to see the Skins and McNabb stick it to the Eagles.

*As mentioned a couple weeks ago....WWE held is annual Wrestlemania with Shawn Michaels facing the Undertaker with his(Michaels) career on the line. Michaels lost and in an unprecedented wrestling move, appears to have actually retired.....Good for him....The Heartbreak Kid will always be a favorite of mine.

*After week 1 in the 64/60 the bottom of the standings is currently the home to Hell & Damnation/Rubber Duckies/LeMaestro's 41129'ers/Ohio River Carp
The Duckies and H & D should be the most concerned of the 4.
--
Duckies perhaps but I happen to like the roster of H&D for the most part. It also has nothing to do with the fact that Hell is my wife.

*After week 1 in the 64/60 the top of the standings is currently home to BC Haimsters/Argumentative 9-Irons/Hendo Colonels/Maccabi Hebrewers
The Colonels should feel the luckiest of the 4 as I have faith in myself and Sir Richard and am starting to come around on the Hebrewers.......perhaps there was some method to El Gilberto's madness.
-
Let's wait a month before we announce teams as contenders.
*Safety Tip O' The Week
Wear Sunscreen when attending a baseball daygame.
-I thought in today's world of SPF protection this would be understood. 70+ degree weather not a cloud in the sky from 12 noon until just after 4. This screams sunscreen to me but thanks for the info.

*Charlie Haeger will give up 12Runs and or 12Hits alot more than he will strike out 12.....Don't go crazy on this one.

Sleep well my children, and until next time.....

Undaunted, I knew the game was mine to win. Just like in life, all of my successes depend on me. I'm the man who has the ball, I'm the man who can throw it faster than fuck. So that is why I am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my ass and suck my dick. Everyone.

(If you haven't checked out the HBO series Eastbound & Down, yet....Please do)
