Some quick nuggets and morsels of knowledge to drop on ya' before I make the trek to house of pope so I can pay some more bills...
I was completely enthralled last night with the Big East. I hate to say it, but the Big East IS the best Basketball conference in the country, top to bottom... Syracuse went down, and so did Nova. Marquette was 4 points away from taking down the Philladelphia Cats each of the first 3 meetings this season, and they finally had enough to best them yesterday, In March...when it all CHANGES. I decided later that evening I was going to invest emotionally in the Cincy and Moutainqueers game...I would not be disapointed in my decision to do so as the game went back and forth and it had all the build up needed for an afterschool special. Bob Huggins coaching his alma mater against the school that made him a star in the the coaching world. His thugs wearing the gold and blue. The overachieving youngsters in Bearcat unis. His alcoholism. MSG. When it looked like UC was going to pull off another upset in the tourney, I don't know if you are aware but they took took down The Lou, Dixon loses the ball dribbling up court in front of WVU's bench...It was just a case of running ahead of the ball. It was a turnover with 4 seconds left. It was an open door. That door was stepped through and closed behind him by De'sean Butler. The Butler did it again for WVU. Not in the study with a candlestick though... He did it behind the arc with ice in his veins.
The wheels have fallen plum off Texas so bad that the guys down at Chaney's would not even attempt to repair them. Baylor out muscled the Horns in BIG 12 action. To a lesser extent, Donnie Jones' Young Thundering Herd led by future #1 NBA draft pick Hassan Whiteside looked like they were going to beat Tulsa in CUSA Tournament and make a strong case for themselves to go dancing. A late second half collapse and Jerome Jordan getting serious is all it took for the Herd to be sitting on Sunday in Huntington to see what second-tier tourney they will go to. The Brown Tornadoes moved on to play CUSA king pin The Glory Roaders from UTEP.That game was underway as we went to press today. Georgetown may have done more than just beat Syracuse in the BIG EAST tourney, they may have taken away a numer one seeding for the Orange and ruined their championship aspirations completely. Arinze Onuaku went down with a knee injury that would shelve him for the remiander of the game and it has been hush hush since. An MRI is scheduled for today, and i fear that it may not be good news. Congratulations to Mark Khoury and The BIG RED of Colgate for running roughshot through the IVY League and getting the bid to dance.Kansas State plays HARD, and that is why I think you are looking at a final four team in the Cats from Manhattan. Tubby Smith is being questioned and berated by a fan base again. The Hoot-Owls in the Barn are getting noisy as the Gophers hit a skid and are playing for their tournemnt lives right now in The Big Ten tourney. Tubby quited some of those critics with an upset over Wisconsin last week, but this is all too familiar territory for the Tub'. He has been bringing in some top rated classes, but the Gophers are underacheiving...hmmm... sounds familiar...Minnesota may scrub the Tub, and if that is the case, Look for Tubby to be the new bull mallard in Oregon.
Those Young Knockout Kids from Lexington didn't look too pretty today, but they came back and John Wall took over and the Crimson Tide was rolled by some Big BLue Thunder. WHat was pretty about the game, was that Ashley Judd, who is on spring break from her classes at HARVARD, and not the one on the hill, made her apperance today. She also let ESPN and JIMMY DYKES aware of the fact that sometimes, they (ESPN) are tolerbale to listen to...stab....Joe B. was interviewed after the game and stated the same thing that The Empire has been up in arms over all season long, that the Pretty Young Things don't know how to keep up the intensity and just dominate a team into submission...Well put Joe B, and do you ever see this man not in a UK Sweater vest? that man has some class.
Ok Evan Turner, your broke back ass hit a game winner against Michigan. kudos, flare for the dramatic. But Columbus, let's be honest here, last time I checked, Michigan is a long way from Chris Webber and Juwan Howard days. None the less, it's a win in March.
Some teams who I think are going to barely sqweak in to the dance hall are going to be Memphis, regardless of what Douche-SPN says, UNLV, and Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and Tubby's Gophers. Regardless of which side of the Tubby debate you are on, you have to admit that the selction commitee loves them some Tubby.
I have a vested interest in UNLV. I love the Runnin' Rebs. They wer larger than life in the early 90's , the hoops version of the U. Memphis will get there just so ESPN and The Media can spread some more Cal hate. I can see it now... Pastner got the Tigers back in the dance despite being left high and dry by Calipari.. Travis Ford and Matt Pilgrim make me smile a little too.
Remember Ol' Big Nasty Corliss WIlliamson? Those zig zag hair-dos...those baggy ass Arkansas shorts, that I bought a pair of by the way...Those bullying tactics to free up Scotty Thurman on the wing..? Well, the Nasty one has been named the head coach of Central Arkansas. I think it is a waiting period for williamson, he is going to be groomed into the next Hogs coach. Yup, Corliss will replace Pelphrey as the head man on Walton's Mountain.
And before tonights game at 7 in the big 12, I am calling a Texas A&M upset over Kansas...by 5....
It's finally warm. It's Finally March. Let the Madness insure...
