I know that we gave the Toughman held over the weekend, a little hell. It was all in good fun, and to be quite honest, we have a considerable amount of admiration to any one who decides to enter the event and go out there have and slug-fests in front of a raucous and near sell-out crowd in the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.(It's always going to be Huntington Civic Center to us.) Our hats off to the participants, as they are doing something that we would never do.
A guy that several of us here in the 6460 know well, Dustin Ryan won the heavyweight division last night, recording a TKO in the finals against Huntington's Rashawde Myers. Ryan forced Myers into two standing 8 counts in the 3rd and final round, and it ended when Myers just stopped fighting. The result was the TKO finish and Dustin Ryan had his hand raised, was given his satin ring-jacket and $1000 prize.
"The Romantic Redneck", Melvin Russell of Greenup County, took top honors in the light-heavyweight division by winning a 3 round judge decision over Charles Whittington of Huntington.
The event drew a packed house to Huntington on both nights. As was to be expected, the opening night saw a larger near-capacity crowd, but the crowd on night two almost matched it in size, and may have surpassed it in the level of enthusiasm emanating from the stands.
Plenty of beer was consumed and plenty of rear-ends were kicked... some even knocked the hell out.
Celebrity Watch: Cletus T. Judd, now a personality at WTCR, was on hand front-row for the events.
