Ray Lewis is hanging it up. He entered through the smoke and pyro one more time in Baltimore today, as his Ravens take on the Colts in the AFC Playoffs, in a manner which would make a Bill Goldberg entrance on Nitro seem meager. All Lewis needed was a Goldberg chant and some blood trickling down his forehead.
Say what you want about Lewis, but he's the man. I wasn't even going to watch this game until I saw this. Brother gets you pumped up.
It's kind of fitting in a way that Baltimore's original team, the Colts and the current franchise, Ravens, opponent for Lewis' home-crowd finale. Art Modell moved the Colts to Indy, then he moved the Browns to Baltimore, which allowed Ray Lewis to play his entire career as a Raven. Art took football away from Baltimore and then gave it back, and gave them Ray Lewis as a byproduct of the move.
Everything comes full circle. Modell has died, Lewis is retiring, Baltimore has their team, playing against their old team who Johnny Unitas didn't regard as the continuation of the Baltimore Colts.
Johnny considered the Ravens the heirs to his Baltimore throne.
Plot-twists and intrigue everywhere today in Baltimore.
Storybook ending.
Ray Lewis deserves at least that much.
