Here kitty kitty... Boyd takes over payments on Anderson Gym

To be on top in the 16th region, traditionally you had to be the biggest cat in the jungle. Tonight, in front of a near capacity Anderson Gymnasium crowd, Boyd County made the statement that you have to be a Lion and not a stray cat in the city.

Boyd County came out and absolutely blitzed the Tomcats and jumped out to a 40-25 lead at the half. To be quite honest, Ashland had no answer and were embarrassed in their own dojo. However, I'm sure it will be written as " Ashland comeback falls short in the Daily Independent" or something of that nature.

Boyd County came out and and just caught fire from the onset, and beat the Ashland press time and time again. Seriously, if you press the WHOLE GAME and are down by that much at halftime, it should be an indication that YOUR PRESS is NOT WORKING.

The second half, Ashland's 'comeback' was fueled by horrible calls and a worse playing surface in Anderson Gym, which is by far one of the lousiest places to have to play,(why in the world does their floor ALWAYS have moisture problems?? That pool has had a leak for 40 years, I reckon.) and it still was obvious that Boyd County was by far the superior team. Matter of fact, the first encounter in Summit now looks to be a complete fluke in which Ashland came away with a win.

And in typical, losing-end, fashion, some Ashland fans took to Facebook to say things like "Boyd County is raising another generation of racists"... To which I have this reply: I personally sat close enough to the student section (which is making strides) to hear every one of their chants, none of which were racially motivated. Matter of fact, there were students of MIXED RACE among the BCHS students. Those claims are completely absurd.

Speaking of the student section, the best chant of the night was "This is our house". BC's crowd would have had you under the impression it was home game for  the Lions, as the were much more vocal and louder inside the home of Kentucky's winning-est high school program.

The Ashland faithful was deflated and completely a non factor within minutes of the game. Everything Boyd County threw up seemingly went in. It was complete domination from bell to bell for the Scarlett and White.
The County was even without a 15 point a game kid, and still demolished the Tomcats. This truly looked like the BC team ,who under Randy Anderson, was touted as the district favorite this season. They got off to a slow start, but I think we are finally seeing the Boyd County that has been absent for quite some time.

Tonight's win snapped a 10-game skid against Ashland, and it couldn't have been done in a more decisive factor.  To add a little more flare to the night for the County, Ashland honored the recently resigned head football coach Leon Hart at halftime. Remember this day, it may very well be remembered as the night that Ashland was put to rest as the local kingpin in athletics. By the way, The BC JV team won, too.

This would have been the one Friday night, it would have been worth listening to B97.

Don't look now, but Boyd is back. The Lions 85, Tomcats 73.
