As of this very moment, the former basketball powerhouse conference who arguably put on the best and most recognizable conference tournament in college hoops, and saw the explosion of 'The U" in football, is a thing of the past.
All but 3 of the remaining schools in the conference have decided to part ways with the league, and restructure their basketball affiliations. Those 7 schools deciding to do are St. John's, Georgetown, Villanova, DePaul, Marquette, Seton Hall, and Providence. These schools were also the only members of the Big East who did not participate in FBS level football, as they all fielded programs in the FCS level (former 1-AA).
It leaves UConn, Cincinnati, and South Florida as the only remaining league members.
Louisville elected to leave the conference a few weeks ago, to join the ACC, which may also be sinking fast according to some reports.
