In-N-Out The 64/60

In less than 5 days the Swing and Swim will once again be upon us. Saturday July the 28th, Hell and Flimstone field the best the 64/60 has to offer will compete, not for cash, not for a trophy, but for pride. Who could forget the inagurial event when the hot play and scantily clad clothing of Emily Stein won Chrissy the title. Who could forget Chrissy's exploits last season. After a 0-13 day at the plate Chrissy celebrates a infield single. This look at me moment leads to a severe ankle injury that could easily effect his life expectancy, racy internet videos, a case of he said she said and why didn't you calls, and all and all a big part of why Chrissy Lee is no longer giving Emily Stein money.
So perhaps the memories of the Swing and Swim may not be fondly recalled in the Lee household, the event has given plenty of life defining moments. How about Josh Coleman's giving it all for the Gelled One tournament. Coleman replaces Lee in last seasons semifinals and uses a solid glove and good plate approach to lead Chris's team to back to back titles. What about Scooter "Beep Beep" Quillen who's masterful work on the mound was reminesent of Jack Morris's brilliant Game 7, in the 91 World Series, pitching the Swing and Swims first shutout. What about the childlike play and big smile of Jonathan Barker. Even at his advanced wiffle ball age Barker still plays the game at 120%, 100% of the time emmulating his childhood hero Pete Rose, to the tee wagering 1K at 5 to 1 odds after losing the 2nd game of the tournament last season. What about the sweet swing of Dave Hobson who on the diamond resembles the great Roy Hobbs. And who could forget Gilbert and Ev who's on the field verbal assaults on each other bring a piece of the 41129 into the 41168.

What memories will be made this season? Will Chrissy assemble another Championship squad? Will another participant see his or her quality of life threatened due to injury? Will someone perform at a level that the Swing and Swim has never seen before? Will another postgame video go viral? With the exception Chrissy resurrecting his 12 year old dominance off the pitching machine anything is possible. I hope all will be there to share in the latest instalment of what the 64/60 has to offer.

Game Recaps

BCFP 7 vs. 9irons 5. As much as I would like for this to be a intense rivalry it just isn't. A Victory for the Factory when facing the 9irons is about as guaranteed as H2H Fantasy Baseball gets.

MVP- Fister 2QS 18K 1.20/.47/10.80

#fantasyteamname 7 vs. Maniacs 4. Todd arises from the ashes to declare his recommitment to the 2012 season. 17 games out of the playoffs with 7 to play= Backs to the Wall. What a feat it would be.

MVP- Cabrera .385/5/12/8/1/1.249

Cutters 9 vs. Deathsquad 3. I talk myself out of supporting Ev's claim as a contender every season. In years past it was more about heart then substance. While Ev still has the same heart the 2012 version has more substance at least offensively. Oddly enough Ev needs to make a deal for a quality starter as well as a name change.

MVP- Trout .452/3/13/7/5/1.368

Stars 6 vs. Jericho 6. It's only fitting these two would battle to a draw over the course of 10 days. The Stars are a mere 2 games behind the Walls for the final spot in the playoffs. I still can't help but be concerned by the lack of urgency from Stars when it comes to back end of the roster and lack of impact AB's. Or perhaps I'm bitter the Stars won't make a deal with the Factory.

MVP- Zimmerman .476/6/11/10/0/1.508

MROTA 5 vs. Colonels 5. The Swing and Swim is a mere 3 days away.

MVP- Boesch .364/3/6/12/0/1.205

Haters 7 vs. TBA 5. After 3 consecutive losses the Haters finally breakthrough with a W after the break. Finally after 6 weeks the Haters finally earn that elusive W and once again are withing a week of solid play from the top spot. For the TBA it was a rare loss and perhaps most suprising was the 0-6 mark offensively. The gel likely wasn't applied as thick on Monday and we may have had one less layer or two as the wounds needed time to heal.

MVP- Kubel .385/6/8/11/0/1.582

Pickup Of The Week

Ben Sheets- Barboursville Stars. A year in the game as a below average P followed by two season out of the game isn't the typical path of a succesful comeback. Yet here we are two starts in and Sheets looks like a huge acquisition for the Braves and Fantasy owners alike. 12 innings is a small sample size, and the four BB can be a cause from concern. On a positive note the 11 K's and .92WHIP suggest his stuff is better than your average bear. It's not uncommon for atheletes in general to overvalue themselves resulting in too many cases of washed up superstar unable to say enough is enough. The sportsworld is filled however with long extended absences followed by stellar sometimes unprecedented levels of play. Will Sheets become a true Ace, likely not but with 12 solid innings under his belt I'll gladly role the dice to find out.

Head Scratcher Of The Week

Wade Miley- Argumentatvie 9irons. Sure Wade Miley was picked up and dropped two times during this scoring period but it's clear the BCFP embraces the streaming culture. The 9irons however do not. And while Miley doesn't have a lengthy track record beyond this season he has managed to be a Top 25 overall Fantasy P this year. With a ERA just above 3 and a WHIP below 1.10 Miley has been a Coverboy for consistent. So while Miley had been in the midst of his worst stretch of the season, and while Phil Hughes is certainly worth rostering in a league such as the 64/60 perhaps Gregor Blanco, Brandon Moss, or another replacement level offensive player would have been the better fit than Miley. One of the better Pitchers of the 2012 season.
